How to get Form 1095-A and Form 8962 to Calculate When you haven't received Advanced payments?

In TurboTax 2022 I filled out my 1095-A which leads to the automatic creation of a Form8962. I did not receive any Advanced Premium Tax Credit payments in 2022 for my qualified Marketplace Health Plan. But I do qualify to receive them based on my income for 2022.

So in column “C” of my 1095-A there is nothing but zeros. In Turbotax, the ONLY way to make the form 8962 actually calculate your Premium Tax Credit is to have at least $1 shown in any of the monthly payments of Column C on the 1095-A. Otherwise TurboTax will not do any of the math calculation on the form 7892. Even though its only $1 (which is not in my favor), I don’t want to file an incorrect 1095-A but I see no other way to get the Form8962 to give me my tax credit?

Yes, you cannot leave Column C blank but you can and should put in zero in column C for each month of coverage.

If Column B is blank you must make entries in that column greater than zero for each month of coverage.  You can find the "Second Lowest Cost Silver Plan" amount for Column B by using this link to the healthcare tax tool or by contacting your marketplace insurer.

If I leave all zeros in Column C, Turbotax makes no attempt at determining the PTC (PremiumTaxCredit calculation) and I it shows I owe federal taxes. If I simply add $1 to just one of the months in Column C of the 1095-A and leave all the rest $0.00, Turbotax then does the PTC calculation and I swing to a multiple thousand dollar refund. The only way to get the program to do the 8962 tax credit calculation is by entering this small value into Column C of the 1095-A. Isn't this a bug? I will technically be entering an incorrect 1095-A by only $1 (even though I did not receive any any advanced premium credits).

If no APTC was paid for your or your family member’s coverage, the SLCSP premium reported in Part III, column B, lines 21 through 32, of Form 1095-A may be wrong, left blank, or reported as -0-

See HERE  Line 10 pg 12, also pg 2.

Here's a good workaround, put an .01 in that column and that should work. See HERE

Is Line 5 of your 8962 less than 100?  If so, you probably don't qualify for the credit, because your income is too low.
