Why is my return still pending? (updated 3-16-21)

Brian your tax expert helped me finish my taxes because it kept asking me to do a form that had nothing to do with me. I filed at 830am on 2/24 it has never been received by the irs. I called the irs they said to call tt. I made 2 calls and 1 chat. The chat guy actually literally left the chat because he kept saying oh youre right and then he disconnected the chat. Another guy I called had music blaring on the phone and couldn't understand him and he sounded drunk or incoherent. The third call the lady tried to tell me that it takes 21 days for the irs to receive my taxes. I said no it takes 24 to 48 hours but usually immediately. Oh yeah that's what I meant. Okay great! It's 48 hours can you tell me why your system has not filed them. Ummm no. You will need to call back in 21 days if it still doesn't go to the irs. What a waste of time. I need this money and I need this fixed immediately. Clearly it never got transmitted to the irs so please fix it ASAP. Thank you.

The IRS site has not been updated yet, they are looking into it and working on fixing it.

Hi, 

mine was in pending status, I called the IRS and they have no record on my taxes being submitted to the server. they suggested I file with another place since they were technically never filed. I filed thru FreeTax USA paid 20$ and it was accepted within minutes! I would try that. The system won't let you file twice, so if you file thru Free tax and it goes thru, it was never technically filed. Hope this helps!

There is something wrong with their software but they don't want to take responsibility unfortunately. I called the IRS they have no record of my taxes submitted, they suggested I file thru Free Tax USA and I did it was accepted within minutes. The system does not let you file twice, so if you can file thru Free Tax USA then TT never submitted it. Hope this helps!

Happened to me too! They suggested I file thru another prep place so I did Free Tax USA which they suggested and it was accepted within minutes. The system won't let you file two, so if you can file thru them TT never sent to the IRS server. Hope this helps!

GabiU: For the last week I have been quite vocal about a NM state return being stuck in "Pending" for two weeks. Was told by the office of the President that I would hear from them on Friday with an update (yesterday), but did NOT. Now I'm afraid I am going to have to start looking for answers as to why a Federal Filing on 2/13 is still not showing up as being received by the IRS.

Who do you go to when the Intuit executive management does not respond with answers? Another tax prep service? That would be a shame after using Turbo Tax for over 30 years.

Unfortunately thats what a bunch of us had to do! I went with Free Tax USA and was accepted in minutes, for both federal and state and now when I search on the IRS site my actually information shows up instead of telling me they had no information. I paid 19.84$ for both refund, and the deluxe package and wish I did it sooner!

ajwilliams8692: I have been using TT since 1985 (as a beta tester), but this is the first year I have used the e-file process. It appears Intuit management is far more concerned with being wok then they are in addressing customer's software issues. My how things have changed.

I usually file with H & R block, have been since I was 16, I tried TT this year and I regret it. I have friends who used it and have no issues, already got state and federal back. its awful you have to sit on the phone for long time periods to talk to the IRS to get questioned answer when TT should be giving us those answers! its absurd and I will not be filing with them again.

Well, got my IRS refund on Feb 16 and my Calif refund today.  SO I'M ALL DONE !  But am sure going to read through these messages threads next year before deciding to use Turbotax....

I filed both my Federal and State taxes thru TurboTax on Wednesday February 24. I recieved the first email stating TurboTax had received them both and my accepted date should have been Friday February 26 but both returns are still pending after 3 days of waiting.?? Anyone know why or what has happened? I normally use TurboTax tax every year and have always got accepted quickly before but not this time and nothing has even changed.  Please help if anyone can!!

@cecilieb29 Unfortunately they are giving any straight answers but we all caught on to what is happening. 1. the software isn't sending the e-file to the IRS server (which was my case as I called the IRS spoke to an agent and she had no record of my taxes) or its being sent and the IRS is rejecting it and TT is not letting people know. People had to call the IRS and found out their return was rejected. If it was never received id advise to file somewhere else as thats what I was advised per the IRS. I used free tax USA and my return was accepted within minutes and then my state followed. Some people are getting rejection emails from TT 7-10 days after filing and sitting in pending, allowing them to re submit and then it gets accepted. Hope this helps

If you have filed a state or federal return and it has been stuck in the Pending status for an extended period of time, over 4 or 5 days, your best bet is to send an email to https://www.intuit.com/company/executives/sasan-goodarzi/ and politely request assistance in addressing the issue. He is the CEO of Intuit. He will forward the message to the office of the President of Intuit and it will get addressed when they get around to it.

If enough users request assistance perhaps, instead of addressing each individual issue, Intuit will address the actual cause of the problem and avoid having many more frustrated users.

Same here. I filed on 2/16, Fed accepted same day and already rec'd my refund. My state of NM efile is still pending after 13 days and this is very concerning.

We filed a NM state return eight days ago on 20 Feb and it is still pending. Hope they clear the backlog soon!
