Great! How do you walk me through making the updates needed? I didn't see any way to get your help when I opened my return in TurboTax late this afternoon and read the details about what's causing the problem.

IL1040-10000-1 - The Secondary Taxpayer Prior Year AGI did not match the Prior Year AGI on the Illinois Department of Revenue production file. If Filing Status is equal to Married Filing Joint, at least one of the following Secondary Taxpayer signature fields must be present and match the department production file: Secondary IL-Pin, Secondary Prior Year AGI, or Secondary IL Shared Secrets Drivers License/State ID Number.

What I did that I think was wrong: The IL state tax return asked 1st what was the AGI for me, Richard Potenza, to which I answered with the Married Filing Joint AGI. The IL state tax return then asked next what was the AGI for my spouse, Patricia Potenza, to which I answered with the Married Filing Joint AGI.

What I believe to be the needed correction is to zero out the AGI for Patricia Potenza.

But, I need help how to do that in Turbo Tax.

My federal 2020 tax return was rejected based on mismatch of AGI to my 2019 return.  I'm looking at the 2019 return and the number I entered was correct.   I tried again.   If this gets rejected again I will need to file by mail.  Can I get a refund for the fee Turbo Tax charged for e-filing my state return?

Many returns are rejected because there was an issue with last year's AGI. Try entering "0" for your 2019 AGI and see if that fixes the problem.

If you are getting an e-file reject, here are a few possible reasons that might be happening and your options:

    If you:

    • Filed late last year after mid-November or your return was processed after that time—try entering 0.

    • Amended your return last year—make sure you’re using the AGI from your original return, not the amended one. (If you only have a 1040X form, it’s on line 1, column A)

    • Rounded your AGI to the nearest dollar—be sure to round up when it’s 50 cents or more, and down when it’s 49 cents or less.

    • Filed with your spouse last year—you and your spouse have the same 2019 AGI. (Don’t split the AGI amount or enter 0 for one of you)

If you’re still having trouble, we suggest that you check with the IRS to make sure that the copy of your return is the same as what they have in their records. To do this, you can order a tax return transcript.

If you’ve tried everything and nothing works, you can still file a paper return by printing out copies of your federal and state returns and mailing them. We’ll include File by Mail Instructions on where to send your returns and what forms, if any, you need to include.

See How do I request a refund for my TurboTax product? for information on a refund of state e-file fees.

What is your issue ?   It is now too late to efile any tax return so all you can do is print, ink sign and mail it in.
