I'm married filing separately, just like I did last year.
Completecheck is sending me back to my Form IA 1040 Schedule 1 line 18 (B). It's telling me that the box under [Spouse ' filing status 3 only] can't be blank and to put 0 if it doesn't apply. When I enter '0', Completecheck sends me back because the box must be blank.
I'm not sure if this is some sort of glitch. I'm pulling my hair out. It won't let me efile my state taxes because of this, and I've already paid for that service.

Are you sure its line 18B? could you maybe copy the actual error here verbatim? looking at the form IA1040 Sch 1 line 18B it says reserved for future use and is not enterable.
Both screenshots you sent say to enter '0' if none.
You are filing 2023 taxes? Where is the IA1040 Sch 1 line 18B error? Can you screenshot that?
That is not what it says. It instructs me to mark it '0' if N/A, but when I mark '0', it kicks me back and tells me that the box should be blank. @MarilynG1
I am not filing '23 taxes. This is in regard to my federal return I received last year, for the year 2023. The state of Iowa taxes our federal return from the prior year, since they didn't get a chance to during that tax cycle. I know it's slightly confusing. @Amysteria
Go back through the IA return. There is probably a zero stuck in the interview. As a last resort, you can file your extension at our Easy Extension website
The instructions for Schedule 1 - Line 18 says:
Federal deductibility has been completely phased out for tax year 2024. No amounts of federal withholding, estimated payments, or payments for prior years should be deducted on the Iowa return, even if the amount paid was made towards a tax year in which federal taxes for prior years were previously deductible (2023 and prior). Federal income tax refunds or overpayments received in tax years 2024 and later do not need to be reported on the Iowa return.
If you entered these, you should delete them.

Oh yes. I did finally see that. Sorry. Because you have a repayment in your federal return, it is triggering a need for both columns but the error for the MFS column is not clearing with or without a value. Not sure that you can even transmit your return with that error. Even if the value you enter is what you need to have, will the error stop you from transmitting? Sometimes people are able to just blow passed errors and transmit anyway.
@Amysteria @ It will not let me transmit my state return. I feel as though there should be a workaround that allows a user to force a transmission in situations like this. I guess I'm going to have to mail these in after you guys already took my money. I've used TT for 25 years. I'll be looking at other programs next year.
@Jorgums We understand this is frustrating, and we apologize for any difficulty this may cause. We want to assure you that we are taking this seriously and our team is diligently working to resolve the problem and provide either a fix or a temporary workaround. Fortunately, the Iowa e-file deadline isn't until April 30th, so you should still have time to file electronically once the solution is available. We'll notify you as soon as it's ready.
@Amysteria I appreciate your work, and I know this is probably a crazy time for you and your team, but it's too late. I mailed my state return this morning. What I'd really like, is help recovering the $63 that I paid Intuit to file my state taxes. Is that something you could assist me with?

@Jorgums Are you using the Desktop program or the Online version? In the Online version the fees are to prepare the return whether you efile or print and mail . If you are using the Desktop program and paid the state efile fee (which is either $20 or 25) you can call and ask for a refund. $64 sounds Iike the Online version.

A product update that will fix this issue is scheduled for release on 4/24/2025.
On or after this date please log back into the product and get the latest updates (TurboTax Online will update automatically). After updating your Iowa return, review for errors and transmit for efile.
