Why was I charged $25 when the system said $20?

TTax $20.jpgTTax $25.jpgOkay, here we are one year later, and exactly the same thing is happening. Updated software (Fed & State) an hour ago. Payment page says cost to eFile State will be $20, but after entering credit card info, the payment jumps to $25.

Why was I charged $25 when the system said $20?

@PeteDun The state e-file charge was $20 prior to March 1.  On March 1 the price increased to $25.  If you updated your software on or after March 1 the program screen would have shown the $25 price for e-filing a state tax return.

Also, this fee can be avoided by printing and mailing the state tax return.

@DoninGA: Please re-read my post. I updated the software today, shortly before filing. I shared screen shots showing the cost as $20, then $25. The fact that not e-Filing is free is irrelevant.

Maybe the update didn't install completely.  Try updating again and reboot your computer.  Looks like you are on Mac?

Thanks, but I did that already. I just got off the phone with a Ttax support rep who had the same experience. Her response: "That ain't right. That's bait and switch!" She referred the issue to billing, who she said would issue a refund within 48 hours. We'll see.

Bull **bleep**!!  Fully up to date

Why was I charged $25 when the system said $20?

This is incredibly annoying.  I had the same problem.  I update the software everytime I log into it.  The screen said $20 for state e-file, but when I tried to pay by computer OR by phone, I was charged $25.  THIS IS A SHADY BUSINESS PRACTICE.  The customer service agent was extremely nice but could not change the fee.

Why was I charged $25 when the system said $20?

I have updated my software everytime I've logged in.  The price on the state e-file page is $20.  If the price stated is $20, the credit card charge should be $25.  Nowhere on the price page does it say that the price might be incorrect.  I am complaining to BBB.  Intuit is taking advantage of its customers.

Which state did you file your return for? @andriadel13

Mine was Wisconsin. Too bad it was the same bug for people this year as last year.  A scam last year and a scam this year. Huh, not one Intuit is rushing to fix.

What are you getting at? Are you saying that you can bait and switch?

That isn't what the software said. In the screen before hitting pay. You say it so matter-of-factly. If the software says $20, then moment you go to pay it says $24.99, it is a scam. Just because you want it to go to $24.99, you can't say in the screen right before paying that it is now $24.99.

@HeatherPLO I'm afraid you are missing the point. This is a known, recurring issue where the TurboTax software states the incorrect amount, even after updating. This issue should have been fixed a year ago or more. We should not have to 1) call support, 2) wait on hold forever, 3) explain the situation and be lucky enough to get someone who understands (it took me several attempts), 4) have them forward the overcharge info to billing, and then 5) wait 30 days for resolution.

Everyone else: After a follow-up call, I learned that the 48-hour timeline given me by the TT support rep was incorrect. It can take up to a month. We'll see.
