Double Taxed

If I file a non-resident state return, Why does the state program not ask if this income is taxed by the state of residence?

If I have to solve my own tax problems, why do I buy turbotax?

You income is always taxed by your state of residence (unless you live in a state with no income tax).  If you have income from other (non-resident) states, it may also be subject to tax in those states.

You have to tell TurboTax which state the money was earned in and then TurboTax will determine what the tax is accessed for that state.  The money is only taxed in the state where you tell the program that it was earned.  It is up to you to be sure that all of the money is accounted for and attributed to the correct state.

TurboTax does the math for you and prepares the returns, but you have to be able to tell the program what figures to use.

In the MY INFO section you told the program which state was your resident state and what other states you earned income in ... then when you got to the state section the NON resident state was listed FIRST so if you followed the interview and completed the non resident state first then when you completed the resident state the amount of taxes you paid to the other state would be present so you could get a credit for those taxes on the resident state.  All you have to do is follow the interview screens in the order they are presented and the program will complete the 2 state returns correctly.

@SteamTrain  Thanks for your worthless response. I received better responses in this thread than the other one. Turbotax tells me to go to the community for help, therefore, I am entitled to do what is necessary to receive that help. Unless you officially represent turbotax, I don't need your advice.
