What do you mean by terms?

Basic tax line?  Please explain your question further

NYC generally follows NY State tax guidelines and uses your income from NYS to calculate your taxes.

@Vanessa A  Thank you for your fast response.

"What do you mean by terms?"

Like the "medical expense, education cost and transportation fees".

Usually what terms or reasons could I make use of?

"Basic tax line?"

For example, we only got $3000 SSA1099-incomes last year.

Usually is that gov-income taxable?

@MythSaraLee   Sorry you are so confused.   Did you only get SSA-1099 Social Security last year?  If you ONLY get Social Security it is not taxable and you do not have to file any tax returns to Federal or to NY.  Unless you had any Income Tax Withheld in box 6.  Then you can file a federal tax return to get back the withholding.

NY does not tax social security.

Transportation is generally not a deductible expense.  In some cases, you can deduct mileage like if it is for medical appointments, but regular running around is not deductible.

Basically, the best thing to do would be to enter everything in your federal return and then let transfer over what is deductible to NYS and NYC.  You can do this by walking through ALL of the questions in the federal side and then doing the same for the state.  If something is deductible, you will be asked and it will be credited.  Sometimes just because something IS deductible doesn't mean it can be because there are other criteria to be met for it to be deducted.  If you go through all of the steps in TurboTax, you won't need to worry about the details or rules, so much.  Just enter what you have.

@MythSaraLee   It might help us if you use the word "item" instead of terms or reasons.  We're having a little trouble understanding your posts.

@VolvoGirl thanks.

I already changed it into "items".

@Vanessa A Thanks for your guide.

For example, if we worked for a medical center or medical charity, we drove and returned in last year,  does that mileage count for NYS and NYC deductibles?

Commuting miles are not deductible. If you are itemizing, then you should have entered the medical charity miles in the federal section as donations to charity.  There is no specific tax credit or deduction for driving in NYC or NYS

If you are talking about the commuter credits question, these are for self-employed individuals.  If you are not self-employed, they do not apply to you.
