Retirement tax questions
NY does not tax social security.
Transportation is generally not a deductible expense. In some cases, you can deduct mileage like if it is for medical appointments, but regular running around is not deductible.
Basically, the best thing to do would be to enter everything in your federal return and then let transfer over what is deductible to NYS and NYC. You can do this by walking through ALL of the questions in the federal side and then doing the same for the state. If something is deductible, you will be asked and it will be credited. Sometimes just because something IS deductible doesn't mean it can be because there are other criteria to be met for it to be deducted. If you go through all of the steps in TurboTax, you won't need to worry about the details or rules, so much. Just enter what you have.
