Turbo tax won't let me re-enter social security income. How do I re- enter 1099 SSA?

Can you clarify if you are having the issues on the  Desktop or online version?

I am using the disc I bought from Amazon on my Dell laptop. After skipping the Soc.Sec. entry, I moved to Deductions and I could not enter Property tax.

Try to update your software in TurboTax by following these steps:

1. Click Online on the top search bar
2. Click Check for Updates
3. Run updates 
4. Try to enter the entries again

If you have tried this and it did not work, it would be helpful to have a TurboTax token.  The token provides a sanitized version of your return.  We will be able to see the numbers but not any personal information such as your name, SSN, or address.  

If you would like to do this, here are the instructions: 

In TurboTax Online, go to the black panel on the left side of your program and select Tax Tools. 

1. Then select Tools below Tax Tools. 
2. A window will pop up which says Tools Center.  
3. On this screen, select Share my file with Agent. 
4. You will see a message explaining what the diagnostic copy is.  Click okay through this screen, and you will get a Token number. 

In TurboTax CD/Download versions, go to the black panel on your screen and select Online. 

1. Scroll down and select Send tax file to Agent. 
2. You will see a message explaining what the diagnostic copy is.  Click send through this screen, and you will get a Token number. 

Reply to this thread with your Token number. 

We will then be able to see precisely what you are seeing, and we can determine what exactly is going on in your return and provide you with a resolution.

If you are using TurboTax CD/Download, you may want to check for any TurboTax CD/Download updates and then try to enter the information manually again.

If you can't enter your Social Security in the boxes try deleting the form.  See this thread for things to try.  There are posts for 2023 at the end

To enter Social Security benefits reported on form SSA-1099

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business)
Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
On Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099), click the start or update button

Or enter ssa-1099 in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to ssa-1099

I cannot enter my 1099SSA on my TT income account. When I press Update all I get is a blank screen. Help!

I encountered same thing - could not enter numbers for SS -- talked to wonderful lady, Linda, at TurboTax today -- she reviewed some information and asked if I had a touch screen - I do.  Suggested trying using only the keys and the mouse, and no touching the screen, and it worked.  They are aware of problem and for most people, this is the quickest solution to continuing to work on your taxes.

I cannot enter my social security income.  Will not let me get into field properly and cannot delete what is there to correct it

Do you have an SSA-1099.  If not, please write back with details of what you have.

To revisit the SSA-1099:

Start at Federal

1. Select Wages & Income
2. Scroll to Retirement Plans & Social Security [Show More]
3. Select Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099) [Revisit]
4. If you wish to eliminate the form, 
   1. Delete the numbers that were entered.
   2. Uncheck the checkbox.
5. This will eliminate the entry.

If when you type the digits in the textbox they're not accepted, "enter details" for that field

(this applies to TurboTax Desktop, any version, any screen, any data field)

There are 2 ways to "enter details" for that textbox : 1st Method) Right-click inside the textbox, and select the option from the context menu that pops up. 2nd Method) Click inside the textbox, and then select "Edit" from the program's menu (at the top of the screen). In the edit menu select "Add Details"
