I am having trouble uploading my 1099-B from Fidelity. It consistently produces an error on upload. I have the actual Tax Document from Fidelity but there is too much data to enter by hand. How do I make the TurboTax actually ingest the data?
I can see that I am logged into my Fidelity account, and I can download the data outside TurboTax in spread sheet format. But TurboTax seems to be falling on its face.

There are a number of posts on the same issue.
I am having the same issue with importing data from Fidelity and raised the issue with Intuit tech support over live call twice now. I also posted the same issue here, on TT community yesterday and it does not look like tech support is paying attention to this issue.
Anyone here knows how to escalate it so that we know if and when the fix is coming?
Please see the thread here for more information on importing Fidelity. A few suggestions were to use a different browser and remove pop-up blockers.
Have you tried a different browser like Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome? Many people have stated using Edge and removing the pop-up blockers has helped. Please let us know if you are successful using a different browser.
I am using a desktop version of TT on MacAir. No browser. Any other suggestions? This looks like a bug that needs to be fixed by Intuit. Can you help escalating the issue?
See NUMEROUS messages regarding this issue... imports and Fidelity. No responses that have been at all helpful. I have used Turbotax for years w no issues. First time calling support at TurboTax and they had no clue. Wrote out a work order number stating I would be contacted but then canceled it two hours later. VERY SAD state of affairs.... I am surprised that this is not all over the internet as a "TurboTax GLITCH"!
Hello MumofPaints. Agree 100%.
I called tech support twice and you end up talking to CPAs who have no knowledge of software interfaces. Anyone in the Community here knows how to contact a REAL live application tech support?
The main reason I am paying for TT is to be able to import the data. If that function does not work, we all should get our money back. How do we submit a Complaint to Intuit? People who work for Intuit and read these posts, can you provide some help here?
You can quickly enter this manually. Your brokerage statements should include a summary of your transactions, grouped by sales category.
There are seven possible "Box" designations that indicate the holding period (Long/Short Term) and the reporting status. These are the only ones you have to summarize. If you want to manually enter your 1099-B as the summaries.
Code A. This code indicates a short-term transaction for which the cost or other basis is being reported to the IRS. Use this code to report a transaction that the recipient will report on Schedule D (Form 1040), line 1a, or on Form 8949 with box A checked with totals being carried to Schedule D (Form 1040), line 1b.
Code B. This code indicates a short-term transaction for which the cost or other basis is not being reported to the IRS. Use this code to report a transaction that the recipient will report on Form 8949 with box B checked with totals being carried to Schedule D (Form 1040), line 2.
Box C. Report on a Part I with box C checked all short-term transactions for which you can't check box A or B because you didn't receive a Form 1099-B (or substitute statement).
Code D. This code indicates a long-term transaction for which the cost or other basis is being reported to the IRS. Use this code to report a transaction that the recipient will report on Schedule D (Form 1040), line 8a, or on Form 8949 with box D checked with totals being carried to Schedule D (Form 1040), line 8b.
Code E. This code indicates a long-term transaction for which the cost or other basis is not being reported to the IRS. Use this code to report a transaction that the recipient will report on Form 8949 with box E checked, with totals being carried to Schedule D (Form 1040), line 9.
Box F. Report on a Part II with box F checked all long-term transactions for which you can't check box D or E because you didn't receive a Form 1099-B (or substitute statement).
Code X. Use this code to report a transaction if you cannot determine whether the recipient should check box B or box E on Form 8949 because the holding period is unknown.
Open or continue your return (if it's not already open) and search inside TurboTax for the phrase stock sales.
When you are done, you'll eventually come to the Here's a summary of your broker sales screen where you can edit, delete, or enter more sales.
You will have to mail a copy of your 1099-B to the IRS. TurboTax will produce a Form 8453. You print the Form 8453 and attach the brokerage statement(s) to it.
IRS requires details to be listed on a Form 8949,
or on your other forms (e.g. consolidated 1099-B) which have the same information and in the same manner as Form 8949.
Either way, if you choose to summarize, you have to mail the transaction details to the IRS within three business days of IRS accepting your e-Filed tax return.(unless you have attached a PDF of the transactions details to your e-Filed return. TurboTax seems to be adding this feature now).
Only Exception: if you summarize Category A or Category D, Form 8949 is not needed for transactions without adjustments. No mailing is necessary.
If you don't have a 1099-B from coin base (crypto) your sales category is C or F.
There is no exception for these categories.
Thanks … You really thought that I don’t know that the data can be entered manually?
Are you employed by Intuit? and if you are, please help and escalate the issue to development tech support to get it fixed ASAP.
Critter-3
Your recommendation to enter the information manually is uncalled for and NOT a solution. THAT is the purpose of purchasing TurboTax. One 1099 has 120 PAGES. This function has worked correctly for the past 10 years. I will send this years to an accountant and request a refund on Premier Turbotax. I have spent hours and days on this issue with no meaningful assistance. Most people haven't even started their taxes yet, so imagine the surprises unless TT fixes this. Fidelity told me they have received numerous calls regarding this issue for the past 2 weeks. Obviously TT knows about it.
KatrinaLO,
Considering that you are working for Intuit, can you help with escalating this issue to TT application development, please?
Here are the details:
I am using TT 2022 Desktop Premier on MacAir.
Importing data from Fidelity was working fine for many years before.
Importing data from MorganStanley and MerrillLynch works fine this year with no issues.
When trying to import the data from Fidelity a popup window comes up asking for keychain password (which I don't even have). The only way to get rid of that popup is by clicking "Deny" 3 times. After entering user name and password for Fidelity.com (as required by instruction at that point), TT is trying to connect to Fidelity only to popup another window "Import was unsuccessful".
A number of people are having the same issue on various hardware platforms. Fidelity tech support confirmed that the issue is on the TT/Intuit side.
Can you help with escalating this issue?
Intuit support has my e-mail and phone number and they are welcome to reach out for any additional information.
Thanks for your help.
Thank you evidently there is an issue although you are the only one flagged on this matter . I have 9 pages of equity transactions and although the totals are in Schedule D, the 8949 isn't populated whatsoever. I have complained since finding this problem as of Saturday 3/11 and today spoke to TT.
I hope they find the problem in a timely basis, since using TT since the 80's . Usually there is always aglitch you can work around or overrride, but this need to be elevated , it will take too much time for me to enter individually, and Fidelity is of little help, especially since it isn't there issue.
Sorry, I put in my two cents later in the thread not realizing a lot of people discovered the problem. Note when I originally spoke to Intuit on Saturdy a CSR indicated I am doing it wrong, I need to go thru the interview process. After I stopped laughing, I decided to call them on Monday so hopefully the person I spoke to will elevate this.
