Itemized deductions:
child's tuition - could be a deduction or credit, usually credit is better
property tax is deductible but must be reduced by STAR credit
Standard deduction $8,000 / $16,050 MFJ
If the program determined the tuition credit is best for you and your property tax is less than the standard deduction, then taking the standard deduction with the credit is better for you.
Take a look at your NY return to verify you got the education credit and double check the tax on your property against the standard deduction.

not sure what question this is referring to, there is a question about redemption of i-bonds related to the use of proceeds for education etc. But for T-Bills I don't see what it would ask - as long as it hit 1099-INT Box 3 you should be good. Check your state return that you are seeing the subtraction/exemption of this interest from state tax.

The amount of tax you have to pay depends on your overall tax situation---the amount of income you received and how much tax was withheld. If you had tax withheld from the retirement account distribution, the software will reconcile how much you had withheld with how much you owe. You might get a refund or you might owe more, just like when you have tax withheld from your paychecks by an employer.

The FTC interview is set up to easily accommodate the entry of Foreign Income where Foreign Tax has been automatically transferred from a 1099-DIV entry. In your case, you'll need to enter the Foreign Income associated with your 1099-DIV first (use Country RIC and total amount of foreign income), then Continue to the 'Country Summary' and 'Add a Country' if you have other types of passive foreign income/tax to report. Your Form 116 Worksheet for passive income will show Country RIC for the 1099-Div, and any other countries.
If the other income is not passive income, Continue through several screens until you reach the FTC Summary. Choose 'Add a Foreign Tax.' Choose the income type and enter details.
Here's more info Claiming the Foreign Tax Credit.

TurboTax does not have your W-2.
W-2's come from your employer, and they have until January 31 to issue it. Some employers allow you to import the W-2 through the software, but for security reasons you still need information from the actual W-2 to import it. Some employers have payroll sites that will have your W-2. You might need to phone, text, drop in, email and/or snail mail an old employer to make sure they know where to send your W-2.
Every 2025 W-2 that you received must be reported on your 2025 tax return, even if they are for small amounts. Remember that each one of those W-2’s has your Social Security number on it, and that income was reported to the IRS by the employer. You do not want trouble with the IRS for under-reporting your income or have your refund delayed by having missing income.
ALL of your W-2’s must be entered on the SAME tax return.
Go to Federal>Wages & Income to enter a W-2.
After you enter the first one, you click Add Another W-2.

https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/import-export-data-files/import-enter-w-2/L55HzdeDr_US_en_US?uid=m68efe36
And….SAVE YOUR OWN W-2! TURBOTAX DOES NOT SAVE IT FOR YOU. TurboTax will not have a copy of it in your account and will not have an image even if you snapped a photo or imported it. It is up to you to save it for your own records as stated on the back of the W-2.

what specific product/version did you buy from Amazon? - they have Desktop s/w which you install and run locally on your machine which has menu structure horizontally across the top of the return window, not to be confused with the TT Online version which is run through your browser and has a menu structure down the left of the screen (the blue "Sign in to Turbotax" boxes on this website take you to TT Online version). some folks buy desktop and then end up preparing their return using online by mistake. Amazon is also selling an "online" version this year which is like pre-paying for the TT Online service.

What payment do you want to make?
If you need to make a payment to the IRS, please see Payments at the IRS website. TurboTax will not be able to make an IRS payment for you, unless you indicate it on your tax return (like the direct debit at the end of your return).

For each 1099R when it asks for the RMD, enter the amount from box 1 on that specific 1099R for the RMD. That’s ok and doesn’t affect anything else.
