If you would like to send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information it would help.  If you would like to do this, here are the instructions:  (Don't forget to give us the state)   TurboTax Online: Open your return -Go to the menu panel on the left side of your return and select Tax Tools.  Then select Tools below Tax Tools. A window will pop up which says Tools Center.   On this screen, select Share my file with Agent. You will see a message explaining what the diagnostic copy is.  Click okay through this screen and then you will get a Token number. Reply to this thread with your Token number and your state. This will allow us to open a copy of your return without seeing any personal information. TurboTax Desktop: If you like, you can send a copy of your return that will be scrubbed to eliminate your personal data by using these steps: Click on Online in the top left menu of TurboTax Desktop for Windows Select 'Send Tax File to Agent'* > Follow the prompts to reach the token number. Enter your email used for TurboTax > Enter your code > Send Write down or send an image of your token number and state then place in this issue. We can then review your exact scenario for a solution. Please also tell us any states included in the return. This is necessary for us to view the return. *If using a MAC, go to the menu at the top of the screen, select Help, then, 'Send Tax File to Agent')   We will be able to see exactly what you are seeing and we can determine what exactly is going on in your return to provide you with a resolution.   @dbarboro
I just received a corrected W-2 for 2024. Do I enter this into my 2025 tax filings, and if so, how?

This income would be considered self employment if your Dad did not consider you an employee. The business name would be your name and the business address would be your address. If you have any direct expenses you can use them to reduce your income. Because the amount is greater than $399, then a return is required even though it's unlikely you will have any self employment tax.   If you are using TurboTax Desktop or TurboTax Online you can use the steps below: Search function in the upper right and type Schedule C. Click on the Jump to.. link This will bring you to the screen 'Here's the business info we have so far'. Select Edit beside your business and then scroll to Business Expenses, Assets, etc. to begin your entry. How do I report self employment income? Where do I enter my self employment business expenses

Sorry---if you are using the Free Edition you have to upgrade to get the Savers Credit.  That credit is often not worth the extra fee to upgrade to Deluxe---so choose whether you want to upgrade or lose the credit.   You can go to the section for the credit and tell the software you are a student to disqualify for the credit and stay in Free Edition.   Or upgrade and get the credit.   Go to Federal>Deductions and Credits>Retirement and Investments>Retirement Savings Contribution Credit       Or—-Use this IRS site for other ways to file for free.  There are 8  free software versions available from the IRS Free File site   https://apps.irs.gov/app/freeFile/

If you have information in your tax return that includes a state that you don't have installed in TurboTax, you may receive Error 190. You will need to either download your free state / purchase an additional state (as explained in this help article) in order to clear the error so that you can run your TurboTax Desktop product, or not try to open / work on the tax file that has the uninstalled state.   If you are caught in a loop, try the following steps:    Try exiting TurboTax, restarting your device and starting TurboTax again. Try using a different browser. Chrome usually works well. Try clearing your cache and cookies.     If after trying all of the options mentioned you still have the same problem:   See this help article and this one for instructions on how to contact TurboTax customer support depending on which product you are using. @Bobdog31411

I liquidated a mutual fund and there are 20+ years of dividend reinvestments incurred before the broker was required to  track cost basis. I have all the statements and tabulated the cost basis. What documentation does the IRS want to see for those years? I can't believe they want me to end them all those statements!

Hi @MelindaS1, thank you for your response.   In my K-3, the foreign tax amount is listed in part III, section 4, column E (General category income - foreign). Doesn't this mean it is an income tax?   From my understanding of the following sections, nothing seems to disqualify me from claiming the foreign tax credit: Topic no. 856 Qualifying tests for a credit Foreign taxes that don't qualify for a credit Instructions for Form 1116 Foreign Taxes Eligible for a Credit Foreign Taxes Not Eligible for a Credit

I am gettin the same message, that I've hit my limit of 5 yet I've only submitted 2.  The software crashed several times when I was trying to file but it never filed those.  Only two returns for two SSNs were filed.  I can't find where in the software it would show me what returns it thinks is counting towards the 5.
