They contacted Pulse , who returned all of the money back to credit karma, they sent notice of all the returns. But I couldn't provide a valid id at the time so credit karma refused to return my money and closed my account. I now have acquired proper id and now they act like I never had an account with them?

Dear TurboTax: Please respond to this poster's issue.  I tried to use TT for the year ended 2024, but could not because of this installment sale issue.  I ended up purchasing TT, then had to pay H&R Block to file my returns, instead.  I'll give you one more try.  I'll try to use TT for my 2025 return.  But if this issue isn't resolved in 2025, this 25-year TT user will be moving on to a different tax software.

CAN I USE TURBOTAX TO AMEND IF THE RETURN WAS PREPARED SOMEWHERE ELSE?   If you did not use TurboTax to prepare your tax return, it is possible to amend the return using TurboTax but it will really be a pain.  It would be better to use the software or service used to file originally.  If a paid preparer made a mistake on your tax return, that tax preparer should do the amended return for you at no charge. In order to use TurboTax to amend your return, you need to purchase the desktop software for the tax year and re-create the return EXACTLY as it appeared when it was filed with the IRS/states.  Every line has to be the same.  Then you have to "trick" the software into thinking you filed by saying you will mail the return. (but do not mail it)   AFTER that, you use the software to prepare a Form 1040X, which has to be printed, signed and mailed to the IRS.  It takes the IRS about 4-6  months to process an amended return   https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/ You may also want to explore purchasing the software from various retailers such as Amazon, Costco, Best Buy, Walmart, Sam’s, etc.

Did you prepare and file your 2024 return using TurboTax?   If so: Wait until your original return has been fully processed before you amend, and make sure you have saved a pdf of the original return before you amend. (If you do not save it as a pdf, the amended return will overwrite the original, and the original will be lost forever)     See this TurboTax support FAQ for amending a tax return -   CURRENT YEAR https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/amend-federal-tax-return-current-year/L7eS6o1qh_US_en_US?uid=lfunevhk     Do not expect quick results from amending. It can take four months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.     You can watch for information here: https://www.irs.gov/Filing/Individuals/Amended-Returns-(Form-1040-X)/Wheres-My-Amended-Return-1

@flyday2022 , yes  the space is a bit small .  So , IMHO, you need to put in barest info --- Person's name ( NRA)  and for what --" beneficiary 529  contribution".  I say this because  this is a record of who received the amount and from whom, while 529 ref. is to show that this goes to an account.  I don't know if the IRS keeps detailed track of this or not , but for your own protection you are declaring this gift by NRA  ( two related persons ) to a non-taxable / tax favored account of the beneficiary.  Thus this becomes your record. BWT -- I am assuming here that  neither the donors  nor the country where  they are resident/citizen of  are sanctioned  .   Is there more I can do for you ?

@rossbaker1 Multiple users have posted to this thread so we do not know what "same problem" you have.   There are two possible PIN numbers you might need to enter.    Your five digit  pin is a self-select number you make up for yourself, using any five digits you expect to remember or keep a record of for yourself.  If you are trying to enter a six digit IRS IP PIN, you must get that six digit number from the IRS and enter in the correct place:     If you have a 6 digit PIN issued to you by the IRS you need to enter it in order to e-file.  Go to Federal>Other Tax Situations>Other Return Info>Identity Protection PIN and enter the six-digit PIN.       https://www.irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/retrieve-your-ip-pin

She can request a return of the excess contributions now, or at the end of the year if you expect more medical expenses.  It actually doesn't matter to your tax return.   In all likelihood, the return of excess contribution can't be done over the phone or online.  It probably needs a special form to be signed and then faxed or emailed as a scanned file.  But you will have to ask each bank for their procedure.   There are no taxes withheld.  The HSA bank will return the excess contribution plus attributed earnings (interest).  It's up to you to set aside any amount you think you will owe for taxes.  (Or, it might simply reduce your refund, if the extra taxes are less than your usual refund.)  If she makes the withdrawal in 2025, then in January or February 2026, she will receive a 1099-SA from each HSA bank showing the total amount of the withdrawal in box 1, the attributed interest in box 2, and box 3 will have code "2".  This will indicate to your tax software that the interest in box 2 is reported as taxable interest on your tax return.   The principal (contribution) part of the withdrawal is not taxable as such.  Instead, the contributions (from box 12 of her W-2s) will be added back to her taxable income as if it was part of her wages all along and not an HSA contribution.  Because the contributions are taxed, the withdrawal of the contributions is not taxed again.    If the health plan year runs January-December, there will probably be a signup option in October or November that will allow her to change her enrollment to the HSA-eligible plan starting January 1, 2026.  But you may want to confirm this with the employer.  If the employer uses a different plan calendar, the open enrollment may be different.

@chrisjimenez-jinx wrote:  I also claimed for two of my children which is what we normally would do anyways I have not deviate from the plan especially because of some other financial reasons that happened between us where she screwed me over anyways so I claim to a month later she got a hold of me and she said I must have claimed all four because her tax return got rejected I know how she is and I can guarantee she never went back and tried to refile for the two I told her she could file for what I need to know is how I can find out if their social security numbers were used that tax year for anybody's tax return so I can amend my tax return. get it please? On the issue of your tax return.  Download or print a copy of the PDF of the return you filed.  Look on the front page where it says "Dependents."  How many dependents are listed there, and is the box for "qualifies for the child tax credit" checked?   On the issue of legality.  If you left in 2023, did you have actual physical custody for more than 183 nights in 2024?  If you did not, and you don't have a signed form 8332, you can not list any child as a dependent.  If you do have a signed form 8332, you still must indicate in the program that the children lived with you less than half the year.  If the children lived with you less than half the year, they don't qualify you to file head of household or get EIC.  This could also cause your ex's return to be rejected, if you do have form 8332 but indicated the children lived with you more than they actually did.     After you check your tax return, you will see some, all or no children listed.  If you are not entitled to claim your children, you must file an amended return to remove them.  You also need to amend if you need to change how long the children lived with you so you can report the form 8332 (if you have one).  To amend your 2024 return, follow these instructions. https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/amend-federal-tax-return-current-year/L7eS6o1qh_US_en_US   Your ex's assumption that you claimed all 4 children may be incorrect, for various reasons.  She might not understand the law, she might have another ex-parent claiming the children, or she might be a victim of identity theft.  All you need to do is make sure that your tax return is correct.   Even if you do file an amended return, she will never be able to e-file for 2024.  The e-file database won't be updated to allow it even if you amend.  She should print her return (as long as she is claiming the correct dependents), sign it, and mail it in.
