I am having an issue with a dependent's peoples worksheet when dealing with education expenses. The specific dependent peoples worksheet shows an error message but no explanation. The educational entries on the people worksheet do not transfer to the student info worksheet. So at this point no educational credits are allowed for this dependent. Unless something else is wrong appears to be a program issue. Is there a fix coming or is there a work around?

Why is it $263 with $15 off for me to file state and federal taxes online? If you browse the internet you can get CD version for $85. I don't understand the extreme price difference. Same software, same everything, but $180 additional price more to file online? Make it make sense!

TurboTax likes to divide by 4 since that is what most agencies do and then it did something odd. You did the math correctly and know the requirements so you will want to submit the correct amounts to CA. Since you must file online, you won't use the vouchers anyway.
CA FTB under Mandatory Electronic Payments - requires estimated payments exceeding $20,000 be filed online. Once it is required, your future payments for the year must also be online. If you pay be check, you can be charge a 1% penalty on the payment amount.

If you're in TurboTax Online, FEDERAL is in the left-side menu, then 'Income' and 'Self Employment Income', then 'Expenses'. If you entered a 1095-A in your return and indicated you were 'self employed' the deduction for self-employed insurance may have transferred automatically.
TurboTax will automatically limit your deduction if you're not allowed to take it due to business income limits and move the expense to Schedule A as a medical expense.
Here's more info on Self Employed Health Insurance.

Hello, We elected section 179 depreciation when we placed the equipment in service in 2022. We closed the business in 2025 and donated or trashed most of the equipment. What is the Journal Entry and what accounts to use to show the total loss to get the assets off our books? For instance: 5/01/2022 - Pressure washer. Cost $2000. Section 179 $2000. Method 200DB/HY, 5 year. Donated 11/30/2025. and 5/01/2022 - Paint sprayer. Cost $2000. Section 179 $1000. Method 200DB/HY, 5 year. trashed 11/30/2025. Thank you.

I saw the same problem on our married filing jointly taxes. It's not a Turbo Tax problem, it's an error on the IRS form by whoever designed the form, part V. I looked up the 1-A form online at IRS.gov to see if they caught the error in the form and had an updated form. The form was the same. It is an error, or a deliberate issue by the IRS/government which essentially takes money away from married filing jointly couples. It uses the combined income threshold to calculate the 6% reduction per $1,000 of income over the threshold of $150,000. But then it applies the same reduction separately to each married spouse. That increases the reduction to 12% per $1,000 of COMBINED income over $150,000. They should have applied the reduction amount from COMBINED INCOME to the COMBINED $12,000 deduction starting point. To compare, if you take half of the combined income, calculate the 6% reduction, then apply it to the $6000 deduction for only one spouse (as though you were filing separately) , you would see that their reduction is half of the amount of the 6% reduction calculation of the amount over $150,000, but on the married filing jointly, the 6% is doubled by applying it twice, separately to each spouse. If you compare the two scenarios, by applying the reductions separately to each spouse, the filing separately is actually 25% of the combined reduction to married couples filing jointly. I hope that makes sense the way I explained it. It's definitely a marriage penalty that no one is talking about and I couldn't find it anywhere on any online searches. If you think about how much each couple could be loosing, then multiply it by the number of seniors it would affect across the United States, that is a lot of money taken away from seniors. Is it intentional or someone's mistake in the design and application of he OBBB? Who knows, but it is wrong!

For many years I've been using TurboTax desktop application, and every year I've transferred data from the previous year file to the new year file... However, this year after installing the new TurboTax 2025 Premier and transferring the data from my 2024 tax file, I've noticed that some data is missing and it's not properly transferred to the 2025 tax file, particularly some income data and carry over data. Once I've noticed the issue, I've tried to start a new return using backup files of my 2024 tax file to be transferred to a new 2025 tax file, but the issue remains the same. I'd even opened the TurboTax 2024 application to see if the 2024 tax file data was all correct and properly saved, and all data was correct as it was filed. Therefore, something is not working, and the 2024 tax file data has not been properly transferred to a new 2025 tax file using the new desktop 2025 Turbo Tax Premier application. Appreciate any help to get this issue addressed and to have this transfer process properly working again.

Not offended at all. I just wanted to make sure you understood that I knew exactly what type of pension I was talking about. Thank you for taking the time to write an elaborate response on the subject. Unfortunately, a fake TIN on the substitute 1099-R does not cut it for me, nor for the IRS by the way - even if they accept the filing. So it means that I will have no other option but to switch to another tax software that doesn’t have that issue and handles foreign employer work pension without having to create an unwanted 1099-R (which is strictly reserved for US retirement income), nor a fake TIN, which is undesirable to the IRS even if they don’t reject the filing. Thanks again!

Thank you for your speedy reply. How about this: I was wondering if it would simplify things if I were to attach the 1009S to my return with an explanation that the SDIRA real estate sale was entirely held inside my SDIRA account and that all expenses, fees, commission, taxes all came from within the IRA. Therefore there are no taxable capital gains and so Schedule D and Form 8949 are not required. Also I do not report the sale under the "collectible and capital assets, personal use, non-business, investment section" of the program and the question of basis is removed. In this way I preemptively explain to the IRS why the capital gains from the sale are non-taxable and there would be no red flags from the IRS. Do you think this is a good idea and will make things simpler for me and the IRS? What do you think ? Thanks frank

The Nebraska taxes keep getting rejected. initially I got this error: 2025_Nebraska_2210_Line19 - Your Nebraska return was not processed for e-file due to a software issue on Nebraska Form 2210N. This issue will be resolved in our next product release, which will be available on March 13. Re-transmit the return on or after that date. I waited until the 13th updated the software reviewed the state return and resubmitted now I get this error: F2210N-0131 - 22b is reserved for future use during years with a single interest rate. RatePeriodA8PctCyrPenaltyAmt (22b, column A), RatePeriodB8PctCyrPenaltyAmt (22b, column B), RatePeriodC8PctCyrPenaltyAmt (22b, column C), and RatePeriodD8PctCyrPenaltyAmt (22b, column D) are not allowed to have values greater than zero. It looks like the same issue as the first but more detailed. I checked the form F2210N and all these are greyed out in the form and don't have any value. Because they are greyed out I cannot enter 0 or any other number. What do I need to do to file my Nebraska return so it will stop being rejected.

Thank you for your quick response! Then, should you try to include the information on the 1042-S in some other way on your tax form, such as adding it in a different section or printing and mailing it with your tax form, or do you just keep the 1042-S for your reference but not do anything with it? Is it because your employer sends your 1042-S along with your W-2 to the IRS anyway? Thank you again.

1. MO law states wages paid for services performed within MO are taxable. Your best legal defense will be the days worked method- due to Kansas City (KC).
2. KC is very strict on the days worked formula. Use days in KC/ total days.
Your best option is the consistency used on both forms. The w2 is sent to the states but your form is explaining the reality of the situation with tax law applied. I would also make sure there is something from the employer about this hybrid schedule in the tax folder at home.
As a resident of KS, 100% of income is taxed with a credit for income double taxed by MO. The credit will be the lower of the state tax liabilities on the same gross income. You may owe your resident state, if they have a higher tax rate along with differences in how the taxable income is calculated. Be sure to prepare the MO return first for proper tax calculation on KS.

Thank you SO much for your reply. So I learned that I cannot carryforward medical expenses from 2025 to 2026 since I"ve posted my question, but thank you just the same. But I understand everything else you said and have followed all of those rules and still my itemized deductions are 'more' than the standard deduction and yet even after changing to itemized deductions, it reverts back to standard. My schedule A shows that I am itemizing my deductions with all the details that I've verified and yet turbo tax says it is still using the standard deduction. But I read in turbo tax that even if itemized deductions are less than the standard, which mine are not, you should be able to choose itemized deductions in turbo tax. It is not allowing me to change. Why not? Thank you!

Note: unless I've missed something, the first quarter ends on April 15th, not March 15th.
