For seniors age 65 and older, the enhanced senior deduction is first calculated automatically by TurboTax in the background on Schedule 1-A (Part V), and then the amount flows to the Form 1040, Line 13b. It is not part of the standard deduction. It is a separate entry in addition to the standard deduction. If you're still preparing your return online, here's how you can preview the Form 1040 and confirm you are getting the extra senior deduction. With your return open go to the left column menu, and click on TAX TOOLS, then subtab TOOLS. In the Tools window choose "View Tax Summary." On that Tax Summary screen you should see a line that says you are getting "Additional Deductions (Schedule 1-A)." While still on that Tax Summary screen, you can further verify it by going over to the left column menu and clicking on "Preview my 1040." That opens up the Form 1040 Worksheet. Scroll down to Line 13b, and the figure there includes the enhanced senior deduction from the Schedule 1-A. And while you are there, you should see your standard (or itemized) deduction on Line 12e.

@tsnolan1993 wrote: "I am switching to turbotax online - so how do I start multiple returns like the desktop version?" Why are you wanting to do that? The desktop version is a superior product and has more features that I'll mention below. Or do you have Windows 10 and can't install the desktop program due to the Windows 11 requirement? Be aware that Online TurboTax can only prepare 1 Federal return per online account per year. Each return will need a separate account and will have a separate fee (unless that person qualifies to use the Free Edition.) Online TurboTax has no Forms Mode, so you can't see the forms during preparation except for the Form 1040 and Schedules 1-3. You cannot directly edit on forms during preparation like you can in the desktop version. Desktop TurboTax can prepare multiple Federal returns and includes 5 Federal efiles. Some desktop editions include a state program that can prepare multiple state returns (of that 1 state.) There is a $25 fee to efile each state return, but there is no state efile fee for New York state. There is no fee to print and mail the state returns. Desktop versions also have Forms Mode for viewing/printing, even editing forms during preparation.

First, if you efiled, be sure your efiled return was accepted. If using Online TurboTax, you can check at the Tax Home page. If that showed your return was accepted, you can track your Federal refund at the IRS "Where's My Refund" tool: https://www.irs.gov/refunds If you filed a paper return by mail, it can take up to 4 weeks just to show up in that tool. The FAQ below tells how to check on a state refund. When you scroll down further there, you will see a link for your state. Are you using the Free Edition or a paid edition like Deluxe or Premium? In a paid edition of Online TurboTax, if you haven't yet paid, and your return is still in the preparation stage, you have to go ahead and pay for the product to have printing privileges for the worksheets. You can preview the Form 1040 and Schedules 1-3 prior to paying, but to have full access to all the forms and worksheets, you will have to pay for your product. If you haven't paid, we can tell you how. On the other hand, if you have already paid for your product, we can tell you how to get the larger PDF that has the worksheets. Have you already paid, and if so, have you also already filed?

My federal return was rejected after e-filing through TurboTax Online with the following error: Reject Code: /Return/ReturnData/IRS5695/EgyEffcntHmImprvCrGrp/EnablingPropertyGrp/PanelboardCktFeederStdPctCrAmt TurboTax shows this message: “There is a potential issue with the calculation regarding Form 5695, Energy Efficient Home Improvement section, Enabling Property on the Federal return. This return cannot be filed at this time due to a processing error that will be corrected on March 6, 2026. On or after this date, open the rejected return, review it for errors, and resubmit the return for electronic filing.” Details about my return: I am using TurboTax Online I claimed the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit ($2,000) for a heat pump installation The $2,000 corresponds to the heat pump energy property credit limit When asked about Enabling Property (panelboard/circuit/feeder) I selected “No” I did not install a panel upgrade or electrical feeder/circuit work The problem is that TurboTax Online does not allow direct editing of Form 5695, and I cannot find any place in the interview to change or clear the Enabling Property fields. Questions: Has TurboTax released a fix for this Form 5695 e-file rejection related to heat pump credits? How can I reset or regenerate Form 5695 so the Enabling Property (Panelboard/Circuit/Feeder) field is not included? Is there a way to delete and recreate Form 5695 in TurboTax Online without losing the valid $2,000 heat pump credit? Is this still a known TurboTax software issue, or should I wait for another update before attempting to re-file? Any advice from TurboTax moderators or users who successfully re-filed with a heat pump credit on Form 5695 would be greatly appreciated.

I have a simple return but TurboTax is calculating a blended tax rate of over 16% for my total wages (<$10K) and total capital gains ($<30K). That is all the income I have (<$40K), there is no other income and my total capital gains came from 1 LT investment that was a gift, where I "inherited" the long-term cost basis from my parents providing the gift. I completed form 8615 ("Kiddie Tax") as I am a dependent (student). In this scenario, I received and sold in 2025. Total market value of <$31K, total LT gain of about $27K, so total of earned and unearned income is about $37K. There is no other income. This looks to clearly be an error in TurboTax applying the 15% LTCG rate. I use the online version. How do I correct this or who do I talk with to fix?
