TurboTax never knows about offsets to your refund. The IRS does not share any information with TT after you file your tax return. If you owed back taxes or child support for which your refund was offset, you will receive a letter from the IRS that explains the offset. It might be couple of weeks until you get the letter.
NOTE: You can contact the IRS Treasury Offset Program Call Center at 1-800-304-3107 to ask if they have an offset for you on file. TurboTax would not have that information.

TurboTax does not receive feedback from the IRS regarding money that was offset from your refund. If you owed back taxes or child support, you will receive a letter of explanation from the IRS in several weeks. The WMR site will contain a message regarding your offset. It is also possible that the IRS caught a mistake you made and reduced your refund.

@dabhunter Did the Desktop download program start ok? It is only a suggestion to switch to the Online version. You can decline it and keep using the Desktop program. Costco only sells the Desktop program. Or is your computer too old to install the Desktop program? This year you need Windows 11 or Mac OS Sonoma 14 computer to install it. I bought my program from Costco too and stayed in the Desktop program.

This is the confusing part: "If you change the amount of tax you paid to California in 2025 (such as withholding), then you should amend both returns if it will affect a deduction on the Federal return for taxes paid to CA." I'm only making changes to CA state return because I was a partial resident in 2025 and I over reported my income to the state by about $1536. As far as I understand that should not affect Federal return because I must pay Federal tax regardless of where I live. For that reason, I'm not making changes to my Federal tax. It's correct and doesn't need to be amended. The following is what I clicked to amend State return: Turbotax still presents 1040-X form and asks me to fill out "Explanation of changes". The following is what Turbotax asked me to fill out (1040-X form automaticaly added to my Amended State return): I left it blank and skip Run Smart Check to check for errors. The next thing Turbotax tells me is this: I did make changes to my State return and CA Refund is showing $38. Federal is showing 0. Turbotax insists that I should file my amended return for both state and federal. This makes me think Turbotax is unable to handle Amended State return only or I don't know how to use the software. Worse case scenario I'll just leave it as is. I don't want to mess up my 2025 Federal return just to get my $38 overpayment back from CA. The other option is to ignore the error on 1040-X form and continue to e-file my Amended State Return only. Ignore the Federal Return (do not e-file or mail it, ever). Is that the correct way to do it?

TurboTax does not receive any kind of tax refund, federal or state.
If you requested to have the TurboTax account fees deducted from your federal tax refund, the IRS will send the refund to a third party processor to have the fees and the $40 service charge deducted. The third party processor will deduct the TurboTax fees plus the $40 service charge and then attempt to direct deposit the remaining refund balance into the account that you entered on your tax return.
For the status of your tax refund you will need to contact the third party processor, Santa Barbara Tax Product Group, using their website - https://www.sbtpg.com/

If you received a "Success" message but your data hasn't appeared in TurboTax, it is likely due to recent browser security updates regarding Local Network Access.
To fix this you need to allow TurboTax to securely retrieve your data through your browser settings:
Locate the View Site Information icon (the "tune" or "lock" icon) on the far left of your address bar, just before the URL.
Find Local Network Access in the dropdown menu.
Toggle the switch to ON.
Refresh the page and attempt your import again.
What do I do when my data isn't imported into TurboTax Desktop even though it says successful import in my browser?
If permissions aren't the issue, one of the following factors may be at play:
Brokerage Delays: While most forms arrive by January 31, many brokerages delay Consolidated 1099s (like the 1099-B) until mid-February due to complex reporting requirements.
Availability: Your brokerage must specifically "release" the import file to TurboTax. If it isn’t ready, we recommend checking back.
Connection Blocks: Active VPNs or aggressive Anti-Virus software can occasionally block the import feature between your bank and TurboTax. Try disabling them temporarily or switching to a different browser.

Intuit/Turbotax has BLUNDERED. In a day and time when we know that personal information stored online is compromised on a daily basis one should be asking the following question. Who in their right mind opts to place all their faith in the ability of Microsoft and/or TurboTax to providing a more secure environment for storing our personal and financial information than what can an individual's on home computer/PC? Windows 11 (with few exceptions based upon MS version i.e. Pro vs Home) forces the utilization of programs via cloud computing, rather than local. What I can foresee is Cyber criminals diving in for ONE BIG SCORE by gaining access to online servers, thus allowing them to compromise hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of accounts in one fell swoop rather than attempting to compromise the same number of individual computers one by one. How does forcing us into one big barrel make our data safer? You lost another decades long customer, due to your incompetent decision.

Robert, IRC 164(a)(1) specifically lists state and local real property taxes as deductable. Thus, Schedule A line 5 includes real property taxes. Also, IRS 2025 Instructions for Form 8960 reinforces that property taxes should be included in the NIIT deduction as it says "Include state, local, and foreign income taxes you paid for the tax year that are attributable to NII. Include also state, local, and foreign real property taxes paid for the tax year, as well as state and local personal property taxes paid that are attributable to NII." (See Instructions, p. 17). If TurboTax is not including property taxes on the 8960 worksheet or in Line 9b, this appears to be wrong given the authority cited above. How can this be resolved? Can TurboTax update the desktop software regarding this?
