When I advance with the I want to e-file option, it asks a few identification questions, then right after asking if I have a driver's license, it takes me back to the "Lets get ready to e-file" screen.

I have two values in my Line 14. One is for QOC EST and the other is EX OT. Should I add these two numbers? I'm not sure what they mean. When I research this I can't find any info. Thanks,

Federal and state refunds come from completely separate entities. There is no rule as to which one will come in first or how long it will be between their arrival in your account.
TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer. “21 days” is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS.
First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:
https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/
Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control. TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.
You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount (line 35a of your 2025 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:
https://www.irs.gov/refunds
To track your state refund:
https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_US_en_US?uid=lt447ebr
If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing
https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/refunds-take-longer-others/L14YlqFrH_US_en_US?uid=lexdr7zh
.
https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/irs-refund-taking-longer-21-days/L2vRAJbdU_US_en_US?uid=lexe7lst
If you are getting earned income credit on line 27 or additional child tax credit on line 28 You are subject to the delay required by the PATH act. Do not expect your refund before early March
https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/internal-revenue-service/federal-refunds-delayed-due-path-act/L5jnQJsBi_US_en_US
Note: “Accepted” is not the same as “approved”. TurboTax tells you the e-file was accepted if the IRS deems that there is enough information on the return for them to take it in for processing. Only the IRS can approve of the refund, which is a later stage of processing. If the IRS approves your refund they will provide a date for the refund to be issued.
FROM THE IRS WHERE’S MY REFUND SITE:
https://www.irs.gov/wheres-my-refund
How it works
Where's My Refund shows your refund status:
Return Received – We received your return and are processing it.
Refund Approved – We approved your refund and are preparing to issue it by the date shown.
Refund Sent – We sent the refund to your bank or to you in the mail. It may take 5 days for it to show in your bank account or several weeks for your check to arrive in the mail.

You are also eligible to take a deduction for medical expenses you pay for your son even if your son is not a tax dependent, as long as the only reason they are disqualified is their income.
This is a bit tricky. To claim an adult child as a dependent they must pass all the following tests,
person is a US citizen or lives in the US
person does not file a joint married return with a spouse, or if they file a return, it is only to claim a refund of withholding and they claim no other deductions or credits.
person is not a dependent of someone else
you pay more than half their total financial support for the year
their gross taxable income for the year is less than $5200 (for 2025).
If they meet all these tests, you can claim them as a dependent and deduct their medical expenses that you pay. If they meet all the tests except the gross income test, you can't claim them as a dependent but you can still deduct medical expenses that you pay for them.
If they don't meet all the tests (or tests 1-4) then you can't deduct their medical expenses.

When I clicked continue TurboTax said it would not prepare estimated tax payment vouchers because I have no estimated tax liability. Can someone explain this to me?

Hi Dave F, Thank you so much for answering. I did try your solution (I have the online version of TurboTax), but even though I was able to delete the Form 6252 and I signed off and signed back on, the installment questions came up again, and it just loops through the questions again and again. There must be something that I've done wrong, I hope, or TT needs to fix this, or someone needs to tell me how to get around it. Any further ideas? smw

If you don't want to wait for the rollout of a new interface for charitable donations, there's a couple of donation valuation guides from Salvation Army and Goodwill you could use to value a total donation, then just enter the total in TurboTax, for example $495 for 'clothing/household items'. If you have totals for one donation over $500, you can break it down into two donations.

Will TurboTax Deluxe desktop software handle a capital loss carryover for my 2025 taxes or do I need to use the Premier version? Thanks in advance.

What kind of 1099? Some you can just enter the total for all and some you have to enter individually like 1099R.

The 1099NEC comes from the person or business for which you performed the contract work. They should have provided it by the end of January. But you can still enter the income without the document if necessary.
Even $400 of "contract" work is self-employment income for which you pay self-employment tax for Social Security and Medicare.
If you have self-employment income for which you will pay self-employment tax for Social Security and Medicare, you will need to use online Premium software or any version of the desktop software download so that you can prepare a Schedule C for your business expenses.

If you weren’t paid $600 or more, a business isn’t required to send you a 1099-NEC, but you still need to report the income.
To enter your self-employment income not reported on a 1099-NEC:
Type “Schedule C” in the Search box
Select the “Jump to” link.
Answer the general questions about your business (or select Edit at the work summary screen).
At the Let’s get income for… screen, select Additional Income.
When in your account, select the Take Me to My Return button on the main screen.
If you did make $600 or more, contact the company or individual you worked for.

Yes, it's perfectly fine to use the Missouri address for both of you on the MO-NRI form. For your second question, most practitioners recommend entering "FO" (for Foreign) or "UK" in that box.
If the software blocks "UK": If the software requires a 2-letter U.S. state code and won't let you leave it blank, you should use "ZZ" (the standard code for foreign/other) or simply your own state (MO).
The purpose of that box is to tell Missouri which other jurisdiction has the right to tax that income. Since the UK isn't a U.S. state, "ZZ" or "FO" is the most accurate. If the software requires you to choose from the dropdown, pick Missouri—even if it doesn’t seem right. Then, on the Income Allocation screen of the MO-NRI, set your spouse’s Missouri income to 0%.
One final note. Since you are filing a federal MFJ election for the first time, Missouri requires you to attach a copy of your Federal Return. If you are e-filing, the software usually attaches this automatically. If you end up having to paper-file due to the foreign address issue, make sure to include a copy of that signed election statement you prepared for the IRS.

Sometimes the best answer is to delete the form, clear any cache and then re-enter your information to see if it clears an experience such as this.
Use the link below for your version of TurboTax to delete a form.
If you're using TurboTax Online software and need to delete a form, click here.
If you're using TurboTax Desktop software and need to delete a form, click here.
Close your return and clear any debris in the background.
Try clearing the cookies and cache. It handles many issues that seem nonsensical on a regular basis with online activity. Watch to be sure you are selecting 'all time' as example. Do not use selections like 'last hour' for those browsers that give you options.
How to clear your cache
Once this is complete open your return and try again.
If you are using TurboTax Desktop, save your return, then at the top select Online, then Check for updates.

Different states have different criteria for employer ID numbers, and some accept more than one format. Check with your employer or your state's Department of Revenue if you are uncertain whether your W-2 has the correct format.
For Illinois, generally, the state Tax ID is a 12-digit number formatted as your Federal EIN followed by -000 (XX-XXXXXXX-000).

The person who paid you should send you a 1099NEC if they paid you $600 or more. But even if you don’t get the 1099NEC you need to report all your income. That is self employment income. You can enter Self Employment Income into Online Deluxe but if you have any expenses you will have to upgrade to the Premium version or use any of the Desktop CD/Download programs. How to enter income from Self Employment https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/self-employed/help/how-do-i-report-income-from-self-employment/00/26653 You need to fill out schedule C for self employment business income and pay self employment tax in addition to regular income tax on it. The SE tax is to pay Social Security and Medicare tax that wasn't taken out like on a W2. You use your own name and ssn or business name and EIN if you have one. You should say you use the Cash Accounting Method and all income is at risk. After you put in your income and expenses if your net profit is $400 or more you will pay 15.3% for Self Employment tax in addition to your regular income tax. The Schedule SE will be automatically filled out for it.

The children age 17 and 18 are only eligible for the Other Dependent credit of $500 each.
Go back to My Info on the left side of the online program screen. Edit the dependent and carefully check your answers to the questions.
Make sure you select them as your Child, that you selected that they lived in your home for the Whole Year, temporary absence for education is deemed living in your home. That they did NOT provide over one-half of their own support (You Did), that you indicated there was no one else in the household providing support to them, and that you did NOT check the box labeled Not valid for employment in the Social Security number section.
If all your answers are correct then delete them as a dependent and re-enter.
