It is possible the IRS will seize your state refund to pay your federal tax liability. If that happens, you will get a notice from the IRS and/or state explaining that. The amount you owe the IRS will be automatically adjusted if this happens.

Tried doing this 4/15/2026 and ChatGPT said there was a way to eFile it and I followed the steps but couldn't get it to work so I guess TT still doesn't support it (neither do the POS Home versions). So I printed and mailed it. Felt like 1984, had to find an envelop and stamp and rush down to the Post Office to get there before 5 to get the on-time postmark. I will probably eFile my taxes soon and they will get that before they get the extension in the snail mail and process it. Can't believe in 2026 TT still doesn't support this. Will be switching pay way too much for a clunky system that you have to fight to get it to do what you want.

My HSA Bank did not provide a Federal Tax ID on my 1099-SA and says it is “private”. Do I need that number when I file my taxes? Will the IRS disallow the contributions?

The screen to enter EITHER your last year's AGI OR a 5-digit PIN that you select each year is towards the end of the section, just before transmitting. If you used TurboTax last year and transferred your return, the AGI amounts may already be filled in for you. You can choose any PIN you want (zip code works).
Here's How to Find Last Year's AGI.

A FMV calculator has been added, but it does not have the same functionality as ItsDeductible.

Accumulated depreciation is the total of depreciation applied to an asset at any given time. For instance, if you purchase an asset for $1,000 and depreciated it over five years using the straight line method, your depreciation for each year would be $200. At the end of year two, your accumulated depreciation would be $400, the depreciation for year one plus year two.

TurboTax does not receive any kind of tax refund, federal or state.
If you requested to have the TurboTax account fees deducted from your federal tax refund, the IRS will send the refund to a third party processor to have the fees and the $40 service charge deducted. The third party processor will deduct the TurboTax fees plus the $40 service charge and then attempt to direct deposit the remaining refund balance into the account that you entered on your tax return.
For the status of your tax refund you will need to contact the third party processor, Santa Barbara Tax Product Group, using their website - https://www.sbtpg.com/

Are you claiming your daughter as a dependent? If so, you will enter the 1095-A on your return and not make any adjustments. If not, then you will enter the 1095-A on your return and she will enter it on her return as well. Then you will choose I share this policy with another taxpayer. You can claim anywhere between 0% and 100% while your daughter will claim the remaining amount. It does not matter how you allocate as long as the total equals 100%.

The North Carolina Dept of Revenue online payment system can be found here. Complete the fields and then select Next from the bottom options. The rest of their payment options (check, etc.) can be found here.
You can request an installment agreement (payment plan) for your tax due here (scroll down to the bottom), and there are drop-downs to learn more info about qualifying - it looks like they make you wait until the bill is already in collections, for example.
If you can't pay in full, there's nothing stopping you from just sending/making a partial payment. If they send it to collections, then you can request a formal installment agreement. It's better to try and pay something than nothing, when dealing with the tax authorities.

The program believes you qualify. Follow these steps:
Go back through the SC return.
Look for the income that SC handles differently.
Scroll down to Public Service.
Look for Subsistence Allowance.
Enter zero
Continue
This should make the program realize your amount is zero.
You may want to log out.
Edit SC again
Go back to where the zero was entered and remove it then click back, not continue
click back until out of the section
check there is no form in your return
Online:
In the left-hand menu, click Tax Tools > Tools.
Select Delete a form.
Look for forms and worksheets related to issue -delete if there
Additional help, see How do I view and delete forms in TTO?
