As SteamTrain implies, neither a 403(b) nor a 457(b) is an IRA.  Lines 4a/b/c are only for distributions from IRAs.  All other retirement-account distributions go on lines 5a/b/c.

Are you trying to check on your refund and the IRS is saying that the information that you're entering is incorrect?  You need to enter your social security number, the year of the refund that you are checking, your filing status and the amount of your refund to check the status of your refund. You can find this information on your 1040 form.    If your refund is taking more than 21 days, you can contact the IRS for individual returns at 800-829-1040.   Refer to the TurboTax article What if my federal refund is taking longer than 21 days? For more information.

Sorry for your loss.  I lost my husband in 2023.   Seems like yesterday.   What do you mean you both have been using Turbo Tax?   Have you been file a Joint return from 1 Online account or the Desktop program?    You can still file a joint return as normal for 2025.  Are you able to log into the Joint account?

As I mentioned previously, because the rollover deposit was made more than 60 days after the distribution, for the plan to allow the rollover to be completed you would have had to have made, and the plan accepted, you self-certification under IRS Rev. Proc. 2020-46 that this rollover would qualify due to financial-institution (plan) error for a waiver of the 60-day rollover deadline.  Since they accepted the rollover, this self-certification was apparently satisfied.

Federal and state refunds come from completely separate entities.  There is no rule as to which one will come in first or how long it will be between their arrival in your account.   TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer.  “21 days”  is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS.      First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:  https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/   Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.     You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2025 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:    https://www.irs.gov/refunds   To track your state refund:     https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_US_en_US?uid=lt447ebr   If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing     https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/refunds-take-longer-others/L14YlqFrH_US_en_US?uid=lexdr7zh . https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/irs-refund-taking-longer-21-days/L2vRAJbdU_US_en_US?uid=lexe7lst         If you are getting earned income credit on line 27 or additional child tax credit on line 28 You are subject to the delay required by the PATH act.  Do not expect your refund before early March   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/internal-revenue-service/federal-refunds-delayed-due-path-act/L5jnQJsBi_US_en_US   Note:  “Accepted” is not the same as “approved”.  TurboTax tells you the e-file was accepted if the IRS deems that there is enough information on the return for them to take it in for processing.   Only the IRS can approve of the refund, which is a later stage of processing.  If the IRS approves your refund they will provide a date for the refund to be issued.   FROM THE IRS WHERE’S MY REFUND SITE: https://www.irs.gov/wheres-my-refund How it works Where's My Refund shows your refund status: Return Received – We received your return and are processing it. Refund Approved – We approved your refund and are preparing to issue it by the date shown. Refund Sent – We sent the refund to your bank or to you in the mail. It may take 5 days for it to show in your bank account or several weeks for your check to arrive in the mail.

You cannot change or add anything on the return that you just e-filed, nor can you stop it.  It is too late, just like when you put an envelope in a US mailbox on the corner.  The IRS does not allow you to take it back.   If you left out a W-2, a 1099G, or a dependent, or a 1099 etc…DO NOT change your return while it is “pending.”  The changes will go nowhere.   Now you have to wait until the IRS either rejects or accepts your return.  If your return is rejected, you will be able to go into your account and make the necessary changes to your tax return and re-submit your return.    Sometimes—not always— the IRS corrects your mistakes, while they are processing your return.    If the IRS accepts your return, however, then you have to wait longer until it has been fully processed and you have received your refund.  THEN you can prepare an amended tax return and e-file or mail  it in. You have to be able to work from that return exactly the way it was when it was e-filed originally.  You will need to use a form called a 1040X.     Meanwhile, DO NOT go in and start changing anything on your return in the system, or you will make a mess for yourself.  Sit tight and wait until you see what the IRS does with the return you

Those expenses don't get entered on Line 16 of Schedule A. If you insist on doing it, go ahead and good luck because it's 100% wrong.   That's why I listed the expenses that can be entered on Schedule A and only those expenses are entered on Line 16 AND NO OTHER EXPENSES.

Im hoping you can clear some stuff for me. So i came here in 2019 on J1 visa -> until dec 2021. Then i switched to F1in 2022 and am here until now on F1. I didn't leave the US since I got here in 2019. I have trouble figuring out if i am non-resident alien or resident alien. I have been getting mix answers on the internet. So far i have been just filling out 8843 cuz I had no income, however i was on CPT last summer that's why im trying to figure this out. If i am resident for tax purpose - am i eligible for the school refund? Do i still have to file 8843?

Hi, really bad mistake on my part. I was having difficulty getting my Ira basis entered for my Ira to Roth conversion for form 8606 since there is no actual form to see when your going through the question/answer stuff. Someone here was very helpful and I was able to get it entered. I looked over the prepared forms, they looked ok, so I filed 3/31/26. However I neglected to notice that the generated 8606 form did not have an entry for line 6 "Enter the value of all your traditional IRAs as of December 31, 2025, plus any outstanding rollovers. Subtract certain 2025 retirement plan distribution repayments treated as rollovers, if any. See instructions" I don't remember even getting a question about entering them.  Anyway I did the calculations over by hand yesterday and my basis is actually about $150 less than the basis I had entered which showed up on line 2 of the form. Is there anyway for me to submit the correction and is there a big penalty for this error?  (And also because of the omission my basis going forward for 2026 is going to be incorrect).  I'm actually getting a refund of a couple of thousand dollars.  This is my first time ever doing an e-filing and of course I've made a dumb mistake. Any advice would really be appreciated. Thanks Dave

Thank you so much! Yes, I have been googling and read that I can still file jointly. He died in July 2025. Thank you so much for the info you sent. I will probably need to hire a professional to help me file.  We both have been using Turbo Tax for the last several years. Not sure I can navigate this year's return by myself. I think Turbo Tax has experts that can help though. Will check into it. In the meantime, I was approved for an extension.   Again thank you, I appreciate your responding!   Very best,   Teri
There does not appear to be any method to update the IT 40 Schedule 7 form with a name. Address and phone were able to be loaded.
