If you want to make changes or add a document to a tax return that has already been filed and accepted by the taxing agency, you should follow these guidelines.
You must first wait until the initial return is completely processed.
You will have to use the same TurboTax account that you used for the original tax return.
Once you begin your amendment, you'll see your original return.
The refund calculator will start new at $0 and only reflect the changes in the refund or tax due
Only make changes to the areas of your return that need to be corrected.
You have three years from the date you filed your return or two years after you paid the tax due (whichever is later) to file an amendment
Select your product below and follow the instructions.

Yes, documenting the interest you receive by issuing Form 1098 will be proof of your intention regarding this loan.

You can mail in another extension but as long as you have the correct tax identification number the extension will be valid as filed.

Thank you for your reply. I edited my original post with some additional details for your review. It doesn't make sense if the 5-digit 'turbotax' PIN is inputted incorrectly. Your explanation states it will take either last years migrated return into current 2025 or allow any 5-digit 'turbotax' pin (even if wrong) to be allowed as long as AIG number is used. The app path to review the AGI does not match the app steps to get to change the AIG field. Thank you

If you don't have a 1099-R, you can't enter it. NY has a subtraction for pensions and the NY software is looking to see if you qualify based on your age. If you did enter a 1099-R in the federal:
Once you are inside the New York state interview, you need to look for the Adjustments or Income section to ensure your 1099-R is handled correctly.
The "Changes to Federal Income" screen: You will eventually reach a screen titled "Changes to Federal Income" or "Adjustments to Income."
Received Retirement Income: Look for a line that says Pension and Annuity Exclusion or Received retirement income.
Click Start.

Tried doing this 4/15/2026 and ChatGPT said there was a way to eFile it and I followed the steps but couldn't get it to work so I guess TT still doesn't support it (neither do the POS Home versions). So I printed and mailed it. Felt like 1984, had to find an envelop and stamp and rush down to the Post Office to get there before 5 to get the on-time postmark. I will probably eFile my taxes soon and they will get that before they get the extension in the snail mail and process it. Can't believe in 2026 TT still doesn't support this. Will be switching pay way too much for a clunky system that you have to fight to get it to do what you want.
