In the Personal Info section, if you Edit your dependent, you're asked who the parent(s) are.  If you're filing as Married Filing Jointly and choose one person as the parent, you get some follow-up questions on whether you're 'letting the other parent claim' and also if 'a relative helped support'.  These may be the questions you're referring to.    Be sure to step through the Education section again.  At the Education Summary page, use the pencil icon to Edit your student's info and expenses.   @marrs

I'm a returning Montana native.  Montana requires all the Federal and prior State tax forms as support for the current filing year (2025 in my case) when you are a part year resident, as I am.  This includes Schedule D for example.  My question is:  When I file my tax return for Montana electronically.  Will/Does Turbo tax send ALL (I mean ALL) the necessary documents to support my e-filing???  Many thanks and Happy Saint Pat's.

This error usually happens when the 'digital envelope' for your return has a formatting glitch. Before considering a paper return, please ensure your software is fully updated and check that there are no special characters (like & or extra spaces) in your address or name fields. Most of the time, clearing out any unused blank forms in your 'Tax Tools' will resolve the formatting issue.   Please check your personal information, like your name, address, SIN, etc. Make sure the information matches what the CRA has for you. Hidden characters (like a weird dash or an invisible space) can break the XML formatting.   If you are not sure what they have on file for you, you can call and confirm it with them.  If you are in Canada or the United States, you can call the CRA at 1-800-959-8281. If you are elsewhere, you can call 613-940-8495. This page has more ways to contact the CRA: Contact the Canada Revenue Agency     If you are still not able to resolve this issue, please contact our phone support team for more assistance.   Thank you for choosing TurboTax.
How can I check an entry when Turbo Tax won't let me open the form 2210 to complete the missing information?
how do I enter the senior discount?

I'm filing a federal and state 2022 amendment using TurboTax desktop 2022 to generate the required forms to mail in. For the state amendment a 502UP underpayment of estimated income tax is created showing interest owed on line 18 of $116. Checking my original 2022 tax return filed it includes a 502UP with the same line 18 $116 amount. However the 502X amendment created with the TurboTax desktop amend feature shows no value owed on lines 26, 27, and 28. Do I need to pay the state $116 or has this already been factored into the amendment based on the original 2022 taxes filed in which I paid the "tax due" amount in full directly to the state? It seems based on Brave AI and Grok's tax doc and forum searches the $116 has already been factored into the originally paid state tax due.   Much appreciated!
Daughter's return is saying the same thing as of today March 17. Still waiting on the update before filing. Got some time, but time is running out.

Ok... So for the last year out of the 4 he reports the difference between those two amounts as taxable income, then unlike in previous years nobody takes the AOTC? He cannot as he is my dependent.    It still doesn't make sense that he is showing as "someone else can claim him" when 3 reps have checked that he is entered appropriately as a dependent.

Yes, if you're not ready to complete your return, you can sign out at any time, and sign back in and your prior progress and data will be saved. The program will usually invite you to pick up right where you left of as well, so you won't have to flip through interview screens you've already answered.

When did you file?  It might take awhile. Did you efile or mail it? If you efiled was it Accepted? When you efile you get back 2 emails. The first email only confirms the transmission. The second email says if the IRS (or state) Accepted or Rejected your efile. Check back though your emails and spam/junk folder. How to check your efile status https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/electronic-filing/check-e-file-status/L9XhHDPtD_US_en_US?uid=lvriwl8j When you log into your account you should also see the status and if it was Accepted or Rejected, Started, Printed, Ready to Mail, etc. What does it say?

I have used Turbotax for years - primarily because it's easy to look back at prior years to get details on returns. I needed to look back at a 2024 return from Desktop Home & Biz 2024. Before I could view the return, it  installed updates - then promptly asked me for my activation code. I found the code on Amazon but it won't take the code. Now I'm stuck and cannot look up the details inside the 2024 return. I'm on Windows 11.  Did they need to update so that it would work on Windows 11? I don't think I had a choice about the turbotax update - they just went ahead and installed it. Is it because I had already used the activation code on my Windows 10 machine last year before I migrated to this new machine that it won't recognize the activation code? Any other ideas? This has rendered Turbotax useless to me in the long run if this is how it works now. Thanks for any help.

There were four members in the LLC established for the farm -- two were trusts and two are individual partners. One of the beneficiaries of one of the trusts died. My husband receives a Form 1065 and because of his brother's death, things were manually calculated this year. So instead of seeing numbers in Box 1, I now see them in Box 11. However, it doesn't seem like the income was added to our overall income. Seems like self-employment taxes were calculated as was QBI. But I am wondering why the income stream is reported as 0.

Hi MelindaS1,  I know the Date Acquired is the Purchase Date but my broker did not provide that the Acquired Date. They said "These are payments made to the account that are 1099-B reportable but are not directly tied to the cost basis to the position. They are paid out based off the quantity held for the position at the time of payment and we do not supply either and open date or a cost basis allocation on these payments. "   I am not happy about that so I had to go back to my statements and look for the Acquired Date. Thank you for your prompt reply and your help.

I'm using TurboTax Premier 2025 on Windows 11. I checked for updates today. I'm an Oregon full-time Resident working on Montana Form 2 with the Nonresident Status box checked. Reference the Montana TurboTax Form 2 Schedule II line 14: This line is to report additional income from Montana Sources. TurboTax includes income on Line 14 that is not from Montana Sources, making my taxable income too large. The Line 14 income is from Oregon state taxes included on Form 1040 Schedule A line 5a. I have not found a method to limit Line 14 to income sourced only from Montana.
