It sounds like you may be getting an error due to rounding on your 1099-Q. My suggestion is that you round the amounts yourself before entering them. When you do this, is Box 1 still the sum of Box 2 and 3? If not, adjust Box 3 by $1 to make the math work. This will not change your income tax liability.

On your W-2, tips should be included in the wages in W-2 box 1, and shown separately in box 7. If your tips are included in box 1, but not shown separately in box 7, the W-2 is not filled out correctly. You should first try to get a corrected W-2 from the employer.
If the employer refuses to correct the W-2 you will have to include a Form 4852 substitute W-2 in your tax return. When you enter the W-2 in TurboTax, enter the correct information instead of what's on the W-2 from the employer. That means you will subtract the amount of tips from box 3 and enter the amount of tips in box 7.
After you enter the W-2 information, you will get a screen that says "Let's check for uncommon situations." Check the box for "Didn't get a W-2" (even though that's not your situation) and click Continue. The next screen asks if you want to complete a substitute W-2. Select Yes. Proceed through the screens, entering the requested information to complete Form 4852. It will ask you to enter explanations of what you did to try to get a correct W-2 from your employer, and how you calculated the amounts that you entered. The prompts on the TurboTax screens assume that you didn't get a W-2 at all, but that's not what the actual Form 4852 says. The form says to explain your efforts to obtain an original or corrected Form W-2, and how you determined the amounts that you entered. TurboTax will include the Form 4852 substitute W-2 in your tax return.
After you complete the substitute W-2 TurboTax will ask you questions to determine if you are eligible for the deduction for tips.

That depends on what tax document you are entering. If you are entering a W-2, the federal tax withheld is in box 2. What kind of document are you entering?

I don’t think you want to uncheck that box. I think there is some bug in TurboTax that has decided your asset is not qualified for section 179 depreciation, even though it definitely is (and, in my case, was fully depreciated in a prior year). I believe you need to keep deprecating assets on the book until they go out of service, and if you remove it early, you may have to ‘pay back’ the 100% depreciation you took earlier. So I would not try to ‘change’ how you are filing this asset. TurboTax just needs to fix their software.

Thanks for your input. I agree 100% that TT has made it impossible to use their program unless you want to invest in a new computer. I won't be doing that and will be using FreeTaxUSA this year. I checked H&R Block and they don't have their act together regarding my Oregon return calculation. Even their tax people can't tell me where to enter non-taxable Gov't interest for state purposes. TT will chase away a lot of good clients over their refusal to create a desktop program using Windows 10.

To get my historical ItsDeductible data from TurboTax, I requested a personal data download on 1/19/26 and received the response data-is-ready-for-download email on 1/30/26. I then downloaded the zip file and unzipped it. In the SharedData folder, I found the ItsDeductible subfolder with only one file inside: _ItsDeductible_DownloadGuide.txt which says:
ItsDeductible Download Guide --- You’ve successfully downloaded a copy of the ItsDeductible data you requested. ---
The ItsDeductibleOnline.xlsx contains complete user information, charity information, and donations you have tracked on ItsDeductible.
The ItsDeductibleOnline.xlsx spreadsheet is missing. I called the contact no, 800-446-8848 (restored), on hold for 30 min, and then tried to explain the problem. Rep finally said she will escalate to next level support. I will update with the resolution.

No one gets an "exemption" for a dependent---not since 2017. Only the custodial parent can claim the childcare credit. If you are the custodial parent, you can use the credit if you pay someone to take care of your child so you can work.
Are you the custodial parent? Do you have an agreement with the other parent to allow the other parent to claim them--due to divorce or that you live apart and share custody? Did one of you sign a Form 8332?
If there is a signed 8332 then the custodial parent retains the right to file as Head of Household, get earned income credit and the childcare credit. The non-custodial parent gets the child tax credit for children under the age of 17. If the child is 17 or older the non-custodial parent gets the $500 credit for other dependents.
If you and the other parent have a signed agreement, you need to indicate in MY INFO that you have such an agreement.
As far as the IRS is concerned, the custodial parent is the one with whom the child spent the most nights during the tax year--at least 183 nights.

An IRA is an individual retirement account. Do you both work and have income? Check that each W2 is assigned to the right spouse. And the IRA is for the right person.

Thank you! To follow up: Are the living arrangements of the student irrelevant as long as the IRA withdrawal amount (which would be allocated toward room and board) does not exceed what the university lists as room and board in their cost of attendance? Her university does not offer on-campus housing, but even if they did, and she chose to live off-campus, would it matter?

@kimmiecon
Qualified overtime does not go on Form 1040. It goes on Schedule 1-A. To enter the qualified overtime amount in TurboTax, after you enter your W-2 you will come to a screen that says "Let's check for uncommon situations." On that screen, check the box for Overtime. TurboTax will then prompt you to enter the information needed to claim the deduction for overtime. The deduction will be calculated in Part III of Schedule 1-A. There are 3 other deductions that might also be on Schedule 1-A besides the deduction for overtime. The total of all the deductions on Schedule 1-A will be on Form 1040 line 13b.
