@tweety4457 As I previously stated the Form 1099-S is not entered anywhere on a tax return. So that also means it is not entered when you are reporting a home sale.
Gain or Loss = Sales Price minus Sales Expenses minus Adjusted Basis (Purchase Price plus the cost of improvements prior to the sale)
Selling cost can include escrow fees, legal fees, real estate agent commissions, advertising costs, and even home staging fees.

Do not enter the 1099-MISC in general income. If you did, delete it. See if you are able to open the Sch E rental/royalty to enter the income, you should be able to enter expenses and depletion.
If you can't see Sch E:
Open your return and use the Search bar (top right).
Type "royalties" and select the "Jump to royalties" link.
This forces TurboTax into the Rental Properties and Royalties (Sch E) interview.
When asked "Is this a Rental Property or Royalty?", be sure to select Royalty property or payment.
You may need to upgrade. The program will prompt you, click the upgrade button and continue your return.

My pension fund has always had Gross distribution, then a lesser taxable amount, with an employee contribution totaling the gross dist'n. Before, a simple "Yes, this is correct" was asked. Now, when asked "For the years you received these distributions, was the total amount shown in the form the amount you paid tax on?", it does not specific what the TOTAL AMOUNT refers to. I've trashed and re-entered the information. If I say "NO", it wants me to enter how the calculation was made? This is the first time in 26 years I have encountered this. both boxes are unchecked in 2b, Dist'n code=4, IRA/SEP/SIMPLE is not checked.

If you already paid for the $25 desktop download state e-file fees:
No one in the user forum can resolve a billing issue. If you have a question about your TurboTax fees or billing, make sure you use the word “billing” in your request for help. Do not use the word “refund.”

If you are using online TurboTax, the fee is the same whether you e-file or file by mail.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

Hi! I spent many hours researching and reading discussions about AOTC. I found most of my answers in TurboTax community. I just want to know if I did my taxes correctly. I'm using the desktop version of TT. Sorry! A little long but I wanted to provide all relevant info. Parents/Dependent 21 year old student met all requirements to claim AOTC 529 Plan - Parent is owner/recipient of distribution and student is the beneficiary. $30,000 - 2025 Cost of attendance $20,000 (1098-T Box 5) - 2025 Scholarship received- nonrestricted $11,000 (1098-T Box 1) - Tuition paid by scholarship - Qualified Educ Exp (QEE)/Non-Taxable $9,000 - Room & Board paid by scholarship - Taxable to student $10,000 received 529 distribution for the remainder of qualified expenses - per 10-Q, 7,000 earnings and $3,000 basis 1. Parent Tax Form - Claim AOTC To simplify things, under Deductions & Credits, 1098-T section, I entered $11,000 in Box 1 and $7,000 in Box 5 to trigger $4k of AOTC resulting in a refundable credit of $1,000. I entered nothing else. Q - Is this method valid? 2. Student Tax Form-claimed as a dependent In 1098-T section, I reduced amount in Box 1 by $4,000 (now AQEE=7,000), increasing the taxable scholarship to $13,000 ($9,000+4,000). It shows up in Other Income Line 8r (Taxable Scholarship). I did not really see a place to allot in Room & Board on Step by Step page. I probably could have entered it in the Forms section but it's pretty confusing. Q - I reported the $4k taxable in the student tax form because the same amount was claimed by parents. Is this correct? 3. Parent Tax Form - Report Non-Qualified 529 distribution by parent(10-Q recipient) Since I got reimbursed by the 529 plan for all the 2025 educ exp not covered by scholarship, I would be double dipping if I used $4k for AOTC if expenses were already paid by 529. I read that I could make the $4k of my 529 distribution non-qualified so I calculated the taxable portion of the 529 earnings. This is the first year we can claim AOTC and I wasn't thinking when I withdrew funds from 529 last year. Also, I had to go to Forms section again to manually enter the non-qualified portion of the 529 distribution. There were no questions in the Step by Step section to see if 529 distributions were all used for QEE. My calculation was 4,000/10,000 x 7,000 = $2,800 taxable portion of the 529 earnings and entered in Other Income on Sch1 Line 8z (Labeled Non-Qualified 529 Distr). No 10% penalty because I claimed AOTC. Q - Did I calculate it correctly? If everything is correct, my refund will increase by $650, and I gained a wealth of knowledge! Thanks so much in advance!

I'm trying to e-file and it's stuck at the PIN/birthdate page. It keeps saying I need to enter PIN or birthdate, which I have. I have included my info as representative for my mom, but it keeps choking and sending me back to enter a PIN or birthdate. I've used Turbotax for my taxes last year and had to use a PIN to file those. Do I need to use that PIN or the one I just made up? VERY ANNOYING!!!

You will add all three, but before you do, you need to make the following adjustments.
Make sure that all overtime reported in those three categories are paid at time and one-half. For example, if you were paid double-time in any of these instances, you would need to reduce the double-time pay to time and one-half.
For the OT w/night differential. You will need to remove the night differential portion of the pay. This is not deductible.
