The “senior deduction” is added automatically by the software based on the date of birth and filing status you entered into MY INFO. You do not need to take any extra steps to enter it. (And…the new senior deduction has nothing to do with whether you are getting Social Security)
2025 STANDARD DEDUCTION AMOUNTS
SINGLE $15,750 (65 or older/legally blind + $2000)
MARRIED FILING SEPARATELY $15,750 (65 or older/legally blind +1600)
MARRIED FILING JOINTLY $31,500 (65 or older/legally blind + $1600)
HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD $23,625 (65 or older/legally blind + $2000)
For 2025 through 2028 there is an extra deduction amount of up to $6000 per individual 65 or older filing Single, MFJ, or HOH which is phased out for taxpayers with modified adjusted gross income over $75,000 for single filers and $150,000 for joint filers.
The $6,000 senior deduction will be calculated on 1040 Schedule 1-A page 2 Part V Enhanced Deduction for Seniors which goes to 1040 line 13b. It is separate and in addition to the Standard Deduction or your Itemized Deductions on 1040 line 12e. Turbo Tax automatically includes it.

The calculation is showing the impact of my Social Security entered in the Fed taxes owed but it is not changing the amount based on the new $6000 senior credit. The box is checked on the form line 12 showing I was born before 1961 but the calculation showing the taxes owed is not correct.

Yeah - I tired to update my Windows TT Deluxe 2025 desktop vrsion...and it says I'm up to date. But the Form 1099-R still says "Available Soon". Is there a manual process to perform updates or a way to trigger the updated downloads?

Even though the last box, "None of the above", is checked, I cannot uncheck the box, "Received interest payments from a seller-financed mortgage." The category is "Other Interest and Dividends".

MY RETURN IS IN PENDING—what does that mean?
You will not get any information from the IRS refund site while your return is in pending. The IRS does not have your return yet.
Did you e-file? Did you click that big orange button that said “Transmit my returns now?” If so, your return is now in “pending” on a server. Do not try to change anything while your return is in pending. On January 26 the IRS will begin to accept/reject e-files. The IRS accepts a FEW returns in test batches ahead of January 26—-but that is very random. Watch your emails—including your spam folder—for the notice about whether your e-file has been accepted or rejected. If your return is rejected you will be able to make corrections before re-filing. If the return you e-filed is accepted you will have to wait until it has been fully processed and then amend it to fix any mistakes or omissions. It has been taking the IRS four to six months—sometimes longer—to process amended returns. If you e-filed your state return there will be another email later that tells you if the state was accepted or rejected.
WARNING: Do not try to change anything on your return while it is pending.

And....if it appears that you can get Social Security numbers for your kids, wait until you get them to file your tax return. You cannot amend later to add a SSN and get the CTC.

I NEED A COPY OF MY W-2 (or 1099)
W-2's come from employers. There is not a federal or national website that provides W-2’s.
TurboTax does not have a copy of your W-2—the Wage & Tax Statement—issued to you by your employer, (nor does TurboTax have copies of your 1099’s). Whether you entered your W-2 by keying it in yourself, importing from a payroll site or by snapping a photo using the mobile app—-TT does not have a copy of your W-2. If you saved a pdf of your completed tax return, the worksheets will show the W-2 information you entered, but not the actual W-2.
You should always save those documents for your own records. You could ask the employer(s) for copies or you can get a copy from Social Security (for a fee of $62).
To get a copy of a W-2 from Social Security https://faq.ssa.gov/en-us/Topic/article/KA-02501
https://www.irs.gov/help-resources/tools-faqs/faqs-for-individuals/frequently-asked-tax-questions-answers/irs-procedures/transcript-or-copy-of-form-w-2/transcript-or-copy-of-form-w-2
You can get a wage and income transcript from the IRS: It will not show the actual W-2, 1099’s, etc, but will show the income information the IRS received. It will not, however, show your state information. It will only show the federal information.
https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript
Or you can pay the IRS $30 for an actual copy of your tax return which will include copies of your W-2’s

The solution listed does not work. Software bug?? Does not work on .pdf file created for 2024 by Turbotax. Have done this many times over the years and its not difficult or rocket science. Now it does not work?? Will try it on a 2023 turbotax file, so hopefully I do not have to recreate everything.

You probably should name the form in question (and Federal or state) and whether it is referring to an employer's Federal or state ID number.

Thank you for your response. I did call Intuit and they are generating an issue for this. You should not have to override if the itemized total is higher.

I’ve purchased QuickBooks Quick Employee Forms and have successfully e-filed multiple 1099s with no issues. However, for the past 12 days, my W-2s are still showing “EFILE PROCESSING.” When I hover over the status, it says “Processing forms at the SSA.” I just want to make sure this is normal and that there’s nothing additional I need to do on my end. I’m concerned about the delay and want to be certain the filings will go through correctly. Has anyone else run into this recently? Is this just an SSA backlog? Did yours eventually update without intervention? Is there any follow-up step I should be taking?

Are both of you also legally blind? If not---then $34,700 is correct for MFJ for 65 or older.
