Yep - this workaround worked for me!  Thanks so much for posting and saving myself (and I'm sure many others ) the loop nightmare of circling back again and again trying to clear the errror to be able to file customer return.  Your sharing of your workarounds for BUGS in software are much appreciated!!

Hello! NC DOT compensated me for a section of land. I received a 1099-S in the amount of $9475.00. I see where to put this in under "Investments and Savings" but it never asks me the question "did you receive a 1099-B?" I went through all the steps including on clicking "Other" when asking the investment type. Once its all in and confirmed it shows up as a 1099-B entry and not a 1099-S. Is this ok? Thanks!

USER ERROR WITH SOCIAL SECURITY ENTRY We have seen a lot of people who made a user error with the entry of their SSA1099.   The screen right after you enter the SSA1099 asks you if you lived in certain foreign countries in 2025.   If you skipped past that screen or answered incorrectly, your Social Security was not taxed correctly.   Look at your Form 1040 and see if line 6b was left blank due to that mistake.  The IRS is catching those mistakes and correcting them by reducing your refund or increasing your tax due.   It is really so important to read every screen slowly and carefully from top to bottom as you prepare your tax return to avoid errors.

I am somewhat unhappy with changes to program and can't find where to loan details. Having to use this avenue to find out where the issues are and hopefully how to correct them.  Thank you everyone who uses the Community chat to help each other. I couldn't have gotten along without your help.   My issue I do have with TT is that I purchased two Home and Business programs this year.  Loaded one of these and used up the 5 free efiles with that program.  Then I loaded the second Home and Business program and wasn't allowed to use those 5 free e-files. Said I had already used 5 free e-files. I have tried twice very unsuccessfully to talk to somewhere preferably a technician or anyone who would listen to help me see if there was a way they could unlock the 5 free files so I could use the second program.  Finally got a person on the phone (couldn't tell you how I did it) and they listened to my issues and I had to repeat several times because he had problems understanding my issues but he told me he would get a hold of someone and have them call me.  This never happened.  Then I tried a chat and gave "it" the problem.  They never replied. Believe they wanted me to give them money (don't know because I never got a chance to type in any other information.  What an awful lack of service.  Can't find a phone where to call for help again.  I want a refund for the second program of $100 since I didn't get to use.  If there is a way of loading two programs, I would like to know how to do so I could purchase two next year and get 10 e-files since I have family who also uses my program.

Yes, if you do not have an apartment number, you should leave that blank (because you do not want to enter any incorrect details on forms that are being sent to the IRS and/or state government).    If this prevents you from e-filing and you have to return to this review section, you can hit the spacebar to put a blank space in the Apt No. field and proceed forward.
Yes, you can select 'contract work' which will not affect your income and expense deductions for your interior design business. It's simply a description of self employment work.
I'm not seeing how to enter my 1098 T on my NJ state return.  There is no prompt for education credits.  I'm using the desktop version

You will also see your rejection reason and how to fix it if you sign in to your turbotax.com account.  If you can find the code and still need help, post it here and someone will try to help!

It depends. If you are referring to Schedule E, first remove any depletion entry inside the 1099-MISC entry. Next go to your rental activity and enter the depletion yourself under 'Other or Miscellaneous' expenses manually. Be sure to use the description 'Depletion' and enter the amount. Use the step by step process to enter your depletion. TurboTax Online: Select Tax Home (left panel) > Wages & Income > Scroll to Rents, Royalties, etc > Edit next to the royalty income. TurboTax Desktop: Search (upper right) > type royalties > Click the Jump to... link > Edit next to the royalty income Please update here if you need additional assistance and we will help.

Hello, veehbj, First, I am an amateur tax filer, so don't rely on any advice here as authoritative. I asked a similar question in March, and I received an answer from THOMASM125, described as an Employee Tax Expert, on March 26, 2026, 8:27 AM (this date and time may help you find the discussion) THOMASM125 said that in order to update this, you will need to go to the Business info tab, Scroll to the Partner Summary Screen, and select the partner you wish to work on, and scroll thru until you find the Partner Capital screen, where you can enter numbers that affect the partner capital account.   I use HOME and BUSINESS version, but I presume PREMIER has the same layout.   As I noticed that my Capital account balance was out of date by a few years, and that the capital account does not show anywhere on the printed out return, I assume that this section is not being reported annually, and will only be important in the year you dispose of your partnership.   I also assume that,, even if you correct it this year (2025) that it won't update, as when I prepare my taxes, I do not see a section specifically asking me to verify my  capital account.   Good luck!   Philleann
