Thank you Roger! Your reply made me realize we can't take out too much from the 401K this year either. Also, we plan on selling a few mutual fund shares to help pay for our son's wedding however. Does this addition of capitol gains raise the MAGI? I believe it will, so we will have to be careful.

If you are still legally married, your filing choices are married filing jointly or married filing separately. You could get the SSN from a past year return or transcript, or file by mail and write SSN for spouse is unavailable on the top of the form.
The thing about filing MFS is that both of you need each other's SSN's---and you both have to file the same say----both use standard deduction or both use itemized deductions. Do you have an attorney who can help you obtain the information you need?
You can get a free transcript from the IRS or for a fee of $30, an actual copy of your tax return.

Careful— do not say that your child’s SSN is not valid for employment.
There is an oddly worded question that asks if the child paid over half their own support. Say NO to that question.
You can claim a child, relative, friend, or fiancé (etc.) as a dependent on your 2024 tax return as long as they meet the following requirements:
Qualifying child
They're related to you.
They aren't claimed as a dependent by someone else.
They're a U.S. citizen, resident alien, national, or a Canadian or Mexican resident.
They aren’t filing a joint return with their spouse.
They're under the age of 19 (or 24 for full-time students).
No age limit for permanently and totally disabled children.
They lived with you for more than half the year (exceptions apply).
They didn't provide more than half of their own support for the year.
Qualifying relative
They don't have to be related to you (despite the name).
They aren't claimed as a dependent by someone else.
They're a U.S. citizen, resident alien, national, or a Canadian or Mexican resident.
They aren’t filing a joint return with their spouse.
They lived with you the entire year (exceptions apply).
They made less than $5050 in 2024. ($5200 for 2025) (Not counting Social Security)
You provided more than half of their financial support.
When you add someone as a dependent, we'll ask a series of questions to make sure you can claim them. There may be other tax benefits you can get when you claim a dependent.

Be patient.
IF you e-file now, your return will go into “pending” until the IRS starts to accept/reject returns in late January. You cannot make any changes while the return is on the server. The IRS will start to accept/reject 2025 e-files on January 26. And….a state return cannot be accepted until after the IRS accepts your federal return.

Did you e-file your tax return and was it accepted? Only the IRS and your State control when and if a Federal or State tax refund is Approved and Issued.
You complete your tax return by finishing all 3 Steps in the File section. In Step 3, to e-file your tax return, you must click on the large button labeled "Transmit my returns now".
After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.
If none of the above happened then the tax return was not e-fled
