Turbotax is allowing me a loss on a vacation rental that is used both as rental and for personal use. This seems contrary to my understanding that partial vacation rental losses can only be carried over to the next years. What's wrong.

In fact, when reviewing the pdf file that is created by TurboTax, when I scroll to the page with Form 8825, Adobe Acrobat actually reports: "An error exists on this page. Acrobat may not display the page correctly. Please contact the person who created the PDF document to correct the problem." So, Turbo Tax fixed one problem and introduced another. Par for the course.

When entering my 1099 information for my Treasury Bill/Bond income from my brokerage account, turbo tax does not show it as taxable income for the Fed. I know that Bill/Bond income is exempt from California state income taxes but taxable for the Fed.. Is this a bug that will be corrected?

I get the same behavior with Charles Schwab - it says that the import was successful and to return to TurboTax, which I do, but I am stuck in a never-ending loop with the Continue button. The back button does not work, so I have to return to Wages and Income, and when I look at Imported data, nothing is imported. What am I doing wrong?

That is great information. So I could have the option of not filing any taxes for her at all and just abandoning the $90 they withheld? I assume if I want to file the SC return, I would also be forced to file a federal return and an NC return. I think all of that would cost more than the $90 she would get back.

Thanks for the clarification and link. The checkbox on the form doesn't indicate it's only for EIC, though. The IRS instructions you linked to clarify the intent of the box, but the form doesn't, and anyone seeing that box on the form would expect they need to check it of they own a home in the US. It's frustrating that the form doesn't allow that, since it looks like a required input.

Once the IRS opens filing for amended returns in late February, you'll likely need to amend your 1040 tax return to reflect the taxable/reportable income items you received on form 1099-R. (Lean more: TurboTax - What is Form 1099-R? Distributions From Pensions, Annuities, Retirement, etc.) According to the individual forms lookup tool, Form 1040X Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return will be available for both print and e-file on 2026-02-25. In the meantime, do not make changes yet in TurboTax online.
If the IRS rejects your e-file submission, you may be able to make any necessary changes and re-submit after including all your tax forms.
If the IRS accepts your e-file transmission (and remits your refund to your bank account), then you should still wait to enter any additional information into TurboTax until Form 1040X is available; this form requires a clean copy of the 1040 to be attached, which you don't want to edit accidentally.
In the meantime, consult your tax advisor about whether your 401(k) rollovers on Form 1099-R represent a taxable or reportable event which must be included in your 1040 or 1040X return. Note - 1099-R is already reported to the IRS and included in your tax return transcript; this means that failing to include it in your individual tax return could trigger an automated notice from the tax agency. Again, your situation may be unique depending on the nature of your withdrawal/rollover transactions.

Marilyn, I've imported from T Rowe Price for years, with no problem. This year, even though the tax forms for my brokerage account show in the same location as the mutual fund side of the house, TurboTax is not downloading them - again, as it has in the past, for years.

@vmvmvm44 1) Wah is in box 2a (same as box 1 or not? or nothing?) 2) What is the code in box 7? ___________________ for 20,000 in box 1 (and 2a if it makes a difference) 1) If the code in box 7 is a G, from doing a direct transfer.....they only need to ask the ROTH questions, and a transfer/rollover to another retirement account is assumed. ...when I do that in a test file (box 2a same as box 1), an look at my 1040, the amount shows up on line 5a, but is not included in line 5b. (Just answering NO to the ROTH questions) 2) IF the code in box 7 is not a G, then there are a series of questions about what you did with the money. One of which asks about it and you select either a) "Yes, I rolled over $20,000.00 to an IRA or other retirement account (or returned it to the same account). or ....if taxes were withheld, and you didn't make them up when put into the TSP b) "No, I rolled over less than $20,000.00.".........and then get to indicate what was actually rolled. ___________________ But if no questions like #2, maybe you were in situation #1

There is an update today that fixes this issue. Unfortunately, now there is a different problem. When saving a PDF file with the Filing Option, TurboTax does not include the detailed list of expenses they now force us to put on Schedule A (Form 8825). Why did they even change the way expenses were entered?
