Let's break down each box along with your details.
Box 1 -includes US government obligations which are reported on 1099-DIV box 1a:
taxable to the federal
exempt from the state
multiply the percentage from your details times box 1a for the exempt amount.
Box 12 is for municipal or tax-exempt funds
these are exempt from federal tax
may or may not be state exempt
look for the state breakdown and find the % for your resident state
multiply your state % time box 12 to get your state exempt amount
Box 13 is related to box 12 so you do not need to do anything extra.
Follow these steps:
Edit your 1099-DIV
After the income entry, continue
Uncommon Situations - select a portion are US Government interest
Enter the dollar value that represents that percentage.
Tell us more about your exempt-interest dividends
Select I earned exempt interest dividends in more than one state
select your state
enter the exempt amount for your state
select the bottom option of multiple states and enter the remainder

Good afternoon Thursday 2/19. Updated TT Premier desktop today, revisited rental house depreciation -- and it seems to work as usual now. So without any announcement or fanfare, it seems to be updated, at least in that product. Intuit is doing a TERRIBLE job on customer support, as if they actively don't care. This was all handled miserably badly, both in the software and in announcements in this forum. Worse, even logging into Intuit I could NOT find a path back to this thread, searching "form 4562" in various flavors didn't find it. I could ONLY get back here by calling up a previous email telling me about yet another posting to the thread, in order to post this followup.

Everyone replying back to this is wrong unless there are custodial battle. If you are not married or have never been married to this person and there are no custodial rights but you are taking care of the child full time There's nothing you can do. The only thing you can do is beat him to it first. The reason I know this is because my mother is a lawyer. I claim taxes every year for my child which the mother cares for We are not married never have been nor do we have any custodial battles. She's tried to fight me every year over it and I beat her to it my best friend is a tax guy. There's nothing You can do. Unless you have custody battle or custodial rights. I am living proof I've been doing this for the last 15 years.

AFTER your return has been full processed you will need to amend and change the way you answered the question in MY INFO that asked if you can be claimed as someone else's dependent. You cannot amend yet.
Your parents do not have to wait for you to amend. Waiting will not help that at all.
They can print, sign and mail their return that claims you, since mailed returns are not rejected. It will take a lot longer for them to get their refund if they have to file by mail.
Or they can get an IP PIN to e-file:
GET IP pin in order to e-file if your dependent’s SSN was claimed on another return

You will have to amend the 2025 tax return that you filed to change your dependency.
The Form 1040-X for amending a 2025 federal tax return is estimated to be available in TurboTax on 02/25/2026
An amended return, Form 1040-X, can only be printed and mailed to the IRS if the original tax return was not e-filed. The IRS will take up to 20 weeks or longer to process an amended tax return.
Before starting to amend the tax return, wait for the tax refund to be received or the taxes due to be paid and processed by the IRS.
See this TurboTax support FAQ for amending a current year tax return - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/amend-federal-tax-return-curr...
Your parent will have to print and mail their tax returns, including you as a dependent, because the IRS has already received a tax return with your Social Security number. Amending your return will still not allow your parent to e-file their return.

I installed energy efficient windows in 2025. Per Form 5695, I have to enter Qualified Manufacturer Identification Numbers starting with their GMID number. My provider reports that their QMID number is V9W0 and that it does not qualify for the energy credit. Is their reporting accurate? If not, I cannot start their ID numbers with V9W0 and still fit in their 17-digit serial number on Form 5695. What should I enter on Form 5695?

I received an update to Turbotax this morning, but no fix for this issue in it. Also, why do I need to reauthorize account sharing with Merrill Lyynch every time I import?

@user17715376343 You are posting to an old thread that has references to a tax law that changed and is no longer in effect for 2025.
