My brokerage firm did not report this capital loss because this was not a sale. The 2025 TurboTax (Deluxe Desktop) does not provide me the choice to enter capital loss without 1099-B. The instructions from the past about "enter loss without 1099-B" does not work for 2025 turboTax anymore. Could you help this ? Thank you!

You should have received a 1099-R for the amount withdrawn from your IRA. After you enter your 1099-R details in TurboTax, you'll get to a screen titled "Do any of these situations apply to you?". Check the box "I transferred all or part of this money directly to charity", then click Continue. The next screen will state "How much did [name of IRA custodian] transfer directly to charity?". Here you can enter the amount that you donated to charity, up to the lesser of the amount of the distribution or $108,000. This amount will be non-taxable.
The QCD does not get entered again under charitable donations as you have already received a tax benefit for this donation to charity.

I prefer the refund as a check rather than directly to the bank. I gave bank info because I thought it is mandatory. I want to know how to change the refund status back to mailing the check.

Yes, but the exemption can change based on your age. The Military Retirement Exemption in Colorado is $15,000 for 2025 if you are under 55 years old. If you are 55 up to 64 the exemption is part of the pension and annuity subtraction of $20,000. There is not a special exemption for military for those over 55. If you are over 64 then the exemption is $24,000

Did you e-file a 2022 return and was it accepted? Check to see what it says in your online TT account for 2022. Then check to see what is shown on the IRS site for your account with the IRS.
You have to access your own account and/or print it for yourself using exactly the same account and user ID that you used when you prepared the return.
https://myturbotax.intuit.com/
Start a 2025 return online and enter some personal information so that the menu on the left opens up and lets you access your past year returns.

Many people have multiple TT accounts and forget how to access them. Log out of the account you are in now.

Account Recovery
DID YOU E-FILE?
Did you e-file? Did you go through all three steps of the FILE section and click a big orange button that said “Transmit my returns now?”
When you e-file your return you will get two emails from TurboTax. The first one will say your return has been transmitted; the second one will tell you the IRS has accepted or rejected your federal e-file. If you filed a state return, there will be a third email (usually a day or two later) that tells you if the state e-file was accepted or rejected.
Check your e-file status:
https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/
What does it say in your account? Does it show that the 2022 return was accepted? Or does it say something else---like "rejected," "printed," or "ready to mail?”
If you discover or realize that your e-file was rejected, or just never filed, you will need to print it, sign and date it in ink, and file it by mail now, since e-filing is closed for returns for tax year 2022.
https://www.irs.gov/payments/your-online-account
If you need to trace a payment that the IRS says has been issued to you, mail or fax a completed IRS Form 3911, Taxpayer Statement Regarding Refund.

Uers have reported success in importing by using an incognito window in Chrome or using Firefox. Be sure your provider account settings allow 'third party access' and you've turned off anti-virus programs. Clear your Cache and Cookies between attempts.
Remember that the IRS already has copies of all your 1099's. Using the Summary Method to report is perfectly acceptable.

besides, why would you think it is ok for a company to sell an incomplete product, just because certain people might not need that feature? How about the people that do need it? what if they are leaving for a vacation, or a sabbatical, and they would like to have the comfort of finish the filing in their homes before embarking on a trip? writing a statement like "i am good as long as before april 15" is extremely selfish and short-sighted

I am unable to import my E*Trade documents. TTax has me login using my E*Trade credentials via a browser but the login fails using the same exact same credentials I use to login to my E*Trade account outside of TTax. I even updated my login credentials within E*Trade and reattempted accessing the documents in TTax, again encountering the same issue saying the credentials are invalid. Manually entering 1099 data in TTax is very time consuming. I hope there is a solution!
