I guess I'll wait for the Friday the 13th update as well (gee, what could go wrong on Friday the 13th :). But the way I understand it is this: the 529 plan sends the 1099-Q to IRS. However it is up to us to determine if any of the withdrawal on the 1099-Q is subject to taxing due to not enough Qualified Expenses. Normally Turbo Tax would do this calculation so it is up to us to do the math and report accurately as other income if Turbo Tax is broken. The IRS won't do a calculation for us based on the 1099-Q; it is the "honor" system to accurately report this number. Still unanswered: for Web version can we manually enter this amount of other income subject to tax if Turbo Tax isn't performing the calculation?

Problem resolved! The "Your Social Security card has “Not valid for employment” printed on it." box was inadvertently checked, which nullified this deduction. Unchecking that box fixed the problem.

Can you confirm for us that when you look at your Form 1040 line 35a that the amount of the refund the IRS says ---on the IRS refund site ---- it issued to you is exactly the same amount you see on line 35a?
Example: If your line 35a says $10,000 -- does the IRS refund site say they sent you $10000? Do those amounts match?

I am trying to enter the sale of a piece of property that is not my home. It's a boat slip actually. I have a 1099-S from the sale. Under Investment Income I choose stocks bonds other > Add investment. I skip the download. I choose Other (1099-S) as the investment type. On "Tell us more about this investment" where it wants to know who brokered the sale. I enter: "None - Private Sale" I enter the sale selecting, "Land Personal Use" or "Sale of Second Home" and complete the rest of the fields. When I return to investments, it lists the investment as "Stocks, bonds, etc. (1099-B)" Why is this listed as a 1099-B?

I didn't have a problem today...even with this morning's TTX update. There was a Windows OS update earlier this week that (maybe) is only partially-installed.....though the reboot should have finished that...unless it was still in the middle of installing when you rebooted. Should probably check into that first though.

You can download and print a blank form 8283 from the IRS web site, and circulate it to the charity and the appraiser while you work on the rest of your return. Remember that even if the program is fixed to allow EINs in the interview, you will still have to mail an original signed form to the IRS as part of a paper return or separately after e-filing.

Here are the three things that other users have used to bypass this specific error:
Strangely, this often affects the selection but not the scrolling.
Click into the Month dropdown box.
Do not try to click on 09–12 with your mouse cursor.
Instead, use the physical scroll wheel on your mouse (or swipe with two fingers on a laptop trackpad) to scroll down to the correct month.
Once the correct month is highlighted, press the Enter key on your keyboard rather than clicking it.
The mouse click is often what triggers the the error in the field.
Click into the Credit Card Number field.
Use the Tab key on your keyboard to jump to the Expiration Month field.
Immediately type the two digits (e.g., 11) without using your mouse at all.
Tab again to move to the Year field.
If you are using the online version, this is often caused by a "script error" in your browser's cached data.
Open a New Incognito Window.
Log back into TurboTax and go straight to the payment screen.
Often, the "fresh" session in Incognito will allow the dropdown to function properly.
