I also agree. Do not use TurboTax! My taxes are very simple and I selected the free software and the standard deductions. TurboTax online told me that because I'm a homeowner, I'm required to pay for the Deluxe preparation. However, when I went to another free site to prepare my state tax return, I discovered that NO other site is charging me for a federal return except Turbotax. They attempt to trick consumers. Customer service refused to help me or refund me. Use another service or prepare to be ripped off.

I have a partnership with guaranteed payments to their partners but also have a very significant loss on the partnership. They pmts are for services so they should be subject to SE tax even though there is a loss on the partnership or am I mistaken?? If I am correct, I have nothing flowing to my Schedule SE to pay the social security and medicare on the guaranteed pmts. What do I need to do???

I retired in October of last year. I had two funds from past employers came up for mandatory distribution. One because of time, the other because it was under the amount I could keep it invested any longer in their fund. I am confused if these are eligible for the lump sum retirement, lump sum distribution, or retirement income credits in Ohio. I used the standard deduction for my federal taxes if that matters.

Perhaps you are not designating that each 1099R belongs to each person on your return (Taxpayer and Spouse).  Check your 1099R Summary page that one form is listed as belonging to the Taxpayer and that the second form belongs to your spouse.   Or there may have been a problem if you imported both 1099R forms.  In that case, you may need import just one and then manually enter the second (or you can manually enter both).

The Form 1040-X for amending a 2025 federal tax return is estimated to be available in TurboTax on 02/19/2026   You will have to wait for the IRS to either Accept or Reject your filed federal tax return. If the return is rejected you can make the necessary changes and e-file again. If the return is accepted you will have to amend your original tax return. An amended return, Form 1040-X, can only be printed and mailed to the IRS if the original tax return was not e-filed. The IRS will take up to 20 weeks or longer to process an amended tax return. Before starting to amend the tax return, wait for the tax refund to be received or the taxes due to be paid and processed by the IRS. See this TurboTax support FAQ for amending a current year tax return - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/amend-federal-tax-return-curr...

If you’re rolling over a 529 plan to a Roth IRA in TurboTax, the 1099-Q section might show taxes that don’t apply, since it treats the transfer as non-qualified. For these rollovers, the IRS doesn’t require you to report the 1099-Q.   If your rollover meets all the rules (the account is at least 15 years old, the beneficiary is the same, and you’re within the $35,000 lifetime limit), leave the 1099-Q out of TurboTax.   The 1099-Q should be kept for your records, but it doesn't need to be entered into the software, as the rollover is not taxable.    If the rollover was a 529-to-529 transfer (not a Roth rollover), ensure you indicate that it was rolled over to another qualified plan within 60 days to avoid taxation. This is a followup question in the interview after you enter the 1099Q.   If this is a Roth rollover, you need to delete the 1099Q entry. If working online go to   Tax Tools Tools  Delete a form Delete form 1099Q If working in Desktop, go to the forms mode. Locate form 1099Q, select it, and then delete it at the bottom of the form when it appears in the right pane of your screen.

I would cursor through the screens of your state's income tax return and see how your state handles your Social Security.  Then review your state income tax return to make sure that you are satisfied with the treatment of your Social Security.   In TurboTax Online, follow these steps to view your state income tax return.   Down the left side of the screen, click on Tax Tools. Click on Tools. Click on View Tax Summary. Click on State Tax Summary. You may print or view your full tax returns prior to filing after you have paid for the software.   View the entries down the left side of the screen at Tax Tools. Select Print Center. Select Print, save or preview this year's return. @updike07

So based on what TurboTax said, I submitted the HSA form to withdraw the Excess contribution of $3,183.  I received $3165.81 instead, via electronic bank deposit. 1.  So do I need to go back into TurboTax and reflect the difference? 2.  Do I need to wait for another Tax document from my Health Equity administrator before I can file my 2025 tax return?   Thank you.

My son received a 1099-Q related to his transfer of 7k to his Vanguard Roth IRA.  The form reflects this action as QTP to Roth. Entering the information into Turbo Tax 2025, the software wants to treat this as a taxable event, even when I select the QTP to Roth radio button. As I understand it this event is not taxable.  Is this issue something that Turbo Tax will correct or do I just not report the 1099 -Q? Thanks!

No. It does not appear that your amended 2024 tax return was e-filed if you attempted to e-file after October, 2025, which was the deadline.   Also, amendments are generally free if you used TurboTax to prepare that original return, so I will also address how to request a refund as well.   You will therefore need to mail copies of your tax return to the IRS and to Michigan.   Regarding the copies you will need to mail to both the IRS and Michigan, TurboTax makes the process easy.   Steps to Identify What to Mail: Follow the Print Instructions: When you choose to file by mail (do not select e-file), TurboTax generates a specific, detailed, step-by-step instruction sheet as the first page of your printout. This tells you which forms to include, such as the 1040, schedules, and state-specific forms. Required Documents:Federal (IRS): Sign the Form 1040 and attach copies of W-2s, and any 1099s that show federal income tax withheld. State: Include a signed copy of the state return, copies of W-2s/1099s, and often a copy of your federal 1040. Where to Mail: The instructions page provides the correct mailing address. Assemble Separately: Mail federal and state returns in separate envelopes to their respective addresses, preferrably using certified mail.    You should include a check with any amount owed to federal because the e-file payment was not processed.   However, do not include a payment to Michigan, since you paid that directly online through their website.   Regarding requesting a refund,

No, you shouldn't manually change Line 7a of Schedule 1 in Form GA 500. Georgia begins with your federal adjusted gross income, which includes only the taxable portion of your IRA distribution. Since your federal return already reduced the distribution for basis, that lower amount correctly flows to Line 7a.   The separate $4000 GA subtraction is handled on Line7d as a state adjustment. This adjustment prevents the basis from being deducted twice.   There's no need to override or manually adjust the worksheet, the calculation is correct.

Where is that valuation tool then?  I checked a few minutes ago and my TT is not updated with any type of valuation tool for charitable donations. I've checked Salvation Army/Goodwill/DonationCalc and they didn't  have some of the items I donated or at least didn't match what they had.  Ex - wall sconces. If TT is adding it, when is that supposed to happen?
