Some customers are experiencing issues when trying to file and pay with their refund.  We are investigating this issue.  However, if you would prefer to file now, you can do so by switching to pay your TurboTax fees with a credit card instead of using the pay with my refund option by following these steps.

Did you e-file your tax return and was it accepted? Only the IRS and your State control when and if a Federal or State tax refund is Approved and Issued.   You complete your tax return by finishing all 3 Steps in the File section. In Step 3, to e-file your tax return, you must click on the large button labeled "Transmit my returns now".   After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.   Note - Once a tax return has been Accepted by the IRS or a State, TurboTax receives no further information concerning the tax return or the status of any tax refund.  Only the taxpayer listed on the tax return can obtain the status of a tax refund or a tax return.   To check the status of an e-filed return, open up your desktop product or log into your TurboTax Online Account. You can find your status within the TurboTax product. If accepted by the IRS use the federal tax refund website to check the refund status - https://www.irs.gov/refunds If accepted by the state use this TurboTax support FAQ to check the state tax refund status - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_...   After the tax return has been Accepted by the IRS (meaning only that they received the return) it will be in the Processing mode until the tax refund has been Approved and then an Issue Date will be available on the IRS website.   Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday

I filed my brother's 2024 return last February using Turbotax. He passed away in August. I am executor of his estate but I have no court documentation because his will did not have to go through probate. I have all of his financial information (banks, social security, pension, etc.). I assume I would have to include a Form 1310 to claim his refund. Can I use Turbotax to file his return. I would probably use the full service application.

I find it very ironic that when I view forms for the 2025 desktop version, there is an ItsDeductible Item Donations worksheet, but like ItsDeductible, it doesn't work (I was hoping I would be able to import the .csv files I downloaded).  I was able to download all the values it used in 2025 and built an Excel file with dropdowns for my wife and I to use for our Vietnam Vet pickups.  Not sure what I'll do for 2026.

Thanks for your speedy response, Bill.  I was able to follow your instructions up to ***Desktop***...Note the Delete Form button at the bottom of the screen.  I do not see a delete form button anywhere on that screen.  Is there another way to delete the forms 8889-S and 8889-T?

To claim the AOTC when her scholarships are greater than her education expenses, you can claim enough of the tuition and fees to claim the AOTC, and then on her return you will enter the scholarship income and the rest of the tuition and fees.   The AOTC is worth $2,500.  It is calculated by claiming 100% of the first $2,000 and then 25% of the rest up to another $500.  So $4,000 in expenses entered on your return would get you the full amount.  Since she had total expenses of about $7,500, on her return she would enter the full scholarship amount and the remaining expenses, minus the $4,000 you entered on your return on her return. She may end up with taxable income for this year depending on how much other income she has.

Once your return is filed, TurboTax has no control over the processing or the timing when the IRS releases your refund.    The IRS Where's My Refund site will not take into account the 5 days early, but if you signed up for the 5 Day Early product, you should receive your refund deposited 5 days prior to the date indicated by the IRS, assuming all conditions are met.   The IRS states that most federal tax refunds are issued within 21 days of acceptance, however, some may take longer if they require additional review. Also, by law, the IRS cannot issue EITC or ACTC refunds before mid-February. This applies to your entire refund, not just the portion related to those specific credits.   Here are a few FAQs to help you track your refund: When will I get my federal tax refund? How do I track my state refund? Why does Where's My Refund say "approved" but TurboTax still says "accepted"? Why do some refunds take longer than others? What if my IRS refund is taking longer than 21 days?
@Newportmap Have you updated your software?

If the employer state ID number (Box 15) does not fit in the TurboTax box, enter as many characters as possible from the left, or use the 9-digit federal EIN from Box b instead. The state ID is often used for internal state tracking, so a shortened number or the federal EIN usually suffices for e-filing with TurboTax.   @corlis
I deleted my dependents but the form keeps asking me to fill out dependent care info like address of day care etc. what can I do to fix this?
@blane245 Latest info from the TurboTax Moderators is that the desktop editions will have the updated Form 5695 available late Wednesday or early Thursday, 01/28 or 01/29
