https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/charges-and-fees/help/why-can-t-i-deduct-my-turbotax-fees-from-my-refund/00/25621   If your refund is enough to cover your TurboTax fees PLUS the extra “refund processing” fee of $40 ($45 in CA) and your forms are ready then when you are in the FILE section you can choose to have your fees deducted from your federal refund by a third party bank, who will take out your fees and send you the rest of your refund after the IRS issues the refund.    Please make note that if your refund takes too long to arrive (IRS delays, etc.) then you will also be agreeing that the TurboTax fees can be extracted from your bank account even before your refund is issued by the IRS.  This comes as an unpleasant shock to many people every year.      If you can possibly pay your fees upfront using a debit or credit card, it will save you that extra fee and even more importantly, the possible aggravation and delays that are often the result of poor handling/poor customer service by that third party bank.  We see way too many instances where refunds are delayed for months when users choose refund processing. There have been lots of complaints; there are a number of things that can go wrong when you use refund processing.  I suggest avoiding that situation if at all possible.     And....you can never pay state tax due from a federal refund, so do not expect that.   The state tax due has to be paid directly to your state.     What is Refund Processing Service?     How can I see my TurboTax  fees?      https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/intuit-account-billing/review-fees-turbotax-online/L1XnIzgzg_US_en_US?uid=m682vq7k         Please see these links for form availability dates Federal form availability   Forms availability

As always, thank YOU Volvo Girl.  You always help.   I am on desktop here if that makes a difference. I have my own business and am on many deadlines over the next few months in addition to caring for a very ill spouse. Having the software "ready" lets me enter data when I get some slack time late at night, and not have to overlap April 15 with other business deadlines.   Also, having TWO friends hacked on TT on-line in 2024 would indicate TT is NOT investing correctly in data security. Since WE are lucky to have you, somehow TT signed me up for on-line premium (never asked for it) AND the Home and Biz desktop I downloaded.  BOTH are tied to my credit card.  How do I stop the premium?  Thanks Again
Once you are logged into TurboTax, the easiest way to start is to open a new tab and to go to the Quick Employer Forms site.   For more information, see: What is Quick Employer Forms?

Your school ID will not help you.    You re not required to enter a drivers license in order to e-file a federal return so you can just skip that.   Some states are very picky about entering a state ID; if you do not have a state ID you might have to file the state by printing and mailing it instead of e-filing.

Issue: unable to move to step 3 in the Checkout/File.   Often the state return is not ready for E-filing until February.    Once the state finalizes the Form and it will take couple "Business" days for TT to program it in our app. It is suggested that customers come back in beginning of Feb.
I agree. Thank God I purchased mine from Costco. Taking this POS back to customer service for refund.

Charitable contributions are a deduction, not a credit. Where do you see $5,929 on your tax return - what form and line number? Look at the actual tax forms, not the summary screens in TurboTax. Is Schedule A line 14 $36,702? The deduction for charitable contributions is limited to a percentage of your income. Does Schedule A line 14 have the word "Limited" to the left of the amount?
You cannot snap a photo of a 1098 from a mortgage lender or from a college.   You may be able to import the 1098 from a lender's site, or you can enter the information by keying it in by hand.

I agreed to my ex wife having custody and I have visitations but the kids have always spent more time with me than their mother and she’s always gotten food stamps and has a boyfriend who makes good money and claimed them on taxes every year while I haven’t received any help. Well she now graduated nursing school and is doing very well financially and I’m single and supporting our kids more than half of the year. From what I’ve read the IRS only cares about who supports the children more than 50 percent of the year and who is the custodial parent doesn’t matter. So that’s the reason I asked. Thank you for your response
No one can see your screen or your tax return.   Please ask clearly worded specific questions so someone will know how to help you.

Are you the custodial parent?  Do you have an agreement with the other parent to allow the other parent to claim them--due to divorce or that you live apart and share custody?  Did one of you sign a Form 8332?   If there is a signed 8332 then the custodial parent retains the right to file as Head of Household, get earned income credit and the childcare credit.  The non-custodial parent gets the child tax credit for children under the age of 17.  If the child is 17 or older the non-custodial parent gets the $500 credit for other dependents.   If you and the other parent have a signed agreement, you need to indicate in MY INFO that you have such an agreement.   As far as the IRS is concerned, the custodial parent is the one with whom the child spent the most nights during the tax year--at least 183 nights.

@Samsolve wrote: Like many others, my TT 2025 Home and Business (Win 11) is not accepting 1099, social security, pension, and other income..... OK, that's not entirely accurate. TT is accepting social security and rr benefits but won't be accepting other retirement income (1099-R) until the update is released on 1/21/2026. The IRS is not accepting filings until 1/26/2026.
