So I took a total withdrawal from my traditional IRA in Dec 2024 and PLANNED to do a rollover to a qualified plan within the allowed 60 day period which would have been in 2025. So in 2025, I received a 1099-R for this IRA distribution that show Box 2a (Taxable Amt) as $0 and Box 7 code as "G"-Direct Rollover.. Now, the distributed Trad IRA funds were NOT rolled over in 2025 as planned so is this Trad IRA money taxable in 2025? If so How do I input the 2024 1099-R form in my 2024 TT software to show the money will be taxable in tax year 2025?

Sign In: Login to your TurboTax account.
Navigate to Tax Tools: On the left-hand side, select "Tax Tools" from the drop-down menu.

Delete a Form: Select "Delete a form" and find the retirement form (e.g., Form 1099-R or Form 8880) you want to remove. Click "Delete" next to the form
Impact on Filing: Removing the form should not impact your ability to file your return, as long as you do not have to report any retirement income or contributions.

In 2023 I mistakenly did not take my RMD from my inherited IRA. I immediately withdrew the balance from the IRA and submitted a form 5329 on my 2023 tax return requesting a waiver. Now it's the following year and I have an IRA distribution that includes the RMD from 2023 and 2024. Do I need to do anything different this year? Does Turbo Tax calculate the intended tax burden when the 5329 is submitted or am I paying the tax this year as it is reflected in my 1099-R? I'm confused because on the form 5329, Part IX, line 53 is zero (with a reference to the waiver explanation) when mathematically there was a balance

I understand what you are saying with the 1098-T on both the parent and child taxes. I did that and am getting a little education credit returned to me. Do you also need to add the non qualfied scholarship, used for room and board, to the MISC Income / Other Reported income? (Where you add a Description of SCH and the amount used for the Room and Board.)

Yes! You have to file it as self employment income for $400 or more and pay self employment tax on it to cover the FICA (SS & Medicare) that wasn’t taken out like on employee paychecks. You will pay Self Employment tax (Scheduled SE) on a Net Profit of $400 or more on Schedule C in addition to regular income tax on it. You pay 15.3% SE tax on 92.35% of your Net Profit (If it is greater than $400). The 15.3% self employed SE Tax is to pay both the employer part and employee part of Social Security and Medicare. So you get social security credit for it when you retire. You can enter Self Employment Income into Online Deluxe but if you have any expenses you will have to upgrade to the Premium version. Or use any of the Desktop installed programs. All the Desktop programs have the same forms. You just get more help and guidance in the higher versions. I have the same issue as the user above. I’ve filed as Head of Household since I was divorced a few years ago. I’ve entered my status as “divorced and not remarried”, confirmed that I have dependents, and it’s automatically changing my status to single and saying it’s because I didn’t provide more than 50% of support which isn’t accurate. Hopefully someone can help me fix this before I move on to another filing service. I’ve used TurboTax for almost 20 years now.
