Well.......... IF the military member has a state of legal residence (SLR) that is NOT KS, then the civilian spouse can also claim that non-KS SLR  (if living at the same post).   1) Usually you do not indicate you "moved" to KS in the Personal Info section.  As far as the military and KS are concerned, you remained a "resident" of your non-KS  SLR state all year.  So do not indicate you resided in KS during 2024  (the mailing address in KS is okay, it's not used for anything but mailings)   2)  IF....if the military person works an off-duty civilian job, then that work requires a non-resident KS tax return and only that income is subject to KS taxes.   3) IF the Civilian spouse worked in KS, then....if he/she filed the proper paperwork with that employer, then no KS taxes were withheld, and no KS non-resident tax return is required.   But, that income is usually included on the couple's SLR state's tax return, and is usually taxed (but not always).   4) to avoid KS withholding for the Civilian spouse that is working in KS, he/she should fill out the KS withholding form K-4, claiming exemption on line 6 of that form, under MSRRA, and file that with their employer.   _______________________________ Read the help articles at:   What is my state of residence as a military spouse?   Where can I find state information on filing my return as an active duty military member?   What is my military state of residence?

This really doesn't answer my question. I obviously know they are charging us for the state returns and the option to avoid them is to print the returns and mail them. This is what I'm forced to do now. But the question is, why do they charge us? Does it cost Turbotax to process these returns that they feel they need to pass on to the customer? Or do they just do it to earn extra revenue?

I purchased a new EV in 2024. I went to file my taxes now and the IRS doesnt recognize the VIN. I immediately realized that the dealership failed to report the sale to the IRS Portal.   I received $7500 discount at the point of purchase (already got my $7500). What happens if I forgo filing form 8936 since I cant seem to get the dealership to go on the portal now to enter the sale information? There was a 3 day timelimit which the IRS has now removed but the dealer doesnt seem to want to do it. Who will lose out on the $7500 at the end? Will it be the dealership for failing to timely report the sale or will someone come to claw back $7500 from me?

Include the Form 1310 for Pennsylvania (PA) as well. They should issue the refund in the name of your wife.  Another option is to use your wife's bank account to request a direct deposit of the refund.   Deceased Claimant: PA-40 Instructions Pennsylvania law does not specifically exclude a decedent from qualifying for tax forgiveness. The department's instructions allow the executor or other person responsible for the affairs of the decedent to submit a claim on behalf of the decedent.

You cannot change the tax year.   The current online program is for 2024 only.   Only a 2024 return can be prepared online and only a 2024 return can be e-filed.   Online preparation and e-filing for 2021, 2022, and  2023 is permanently closed. Note:  The desktop software you need to prepare the prior year return must be installed/downloaded to a full PC or Mac.  It cannot be used on a mobile device.   To file a return for a prior tax year  If you need to prepare a return for 2021, 2022, or 2023  you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign,  and mail the return(s) https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/ You may also want to explore purchasing the software from various retailers such as Amazon, Costco, Best Buy, Walmart, Sam’s, etc.   Remember to prepare your state return as well—if you live in a state that has a state income tax.   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/state-taxes/contact-state-department-revenue/L9qVToi02_US_en_US?uid=m6e06um0   When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.   Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

Thank you for providing the sample upload.  I matched EXACTLY the column names, however, I only had dates in my CSV.  It was erroring and saying needed column names etc. but the real problem is once I added "12:00" to the date, it loaded fine (so stupid).

E-filing fee in desktop software Did you purchase desktop software with state software included?  They sell Deluxe both with and without state software--so you have to be careful which one you choose.  And even if it does have the state software download included, that is for preparing the state.  There is an extra $25 fee to e-file the state.  You can avoid the state e-file fee if you print and mail the state instead of e-filing it.
