When you get to the state filings, you should enter your nonresident state return (MA) first because your resident state might give you a credit for any taxes paid in that state..   I don't know if you entered your nonresident tax return first but you should complete your nonresident returns first. You may want to try to delete your state tax returns and re-enter again.     The only other thing I can suggest is to try contacting TurboTax Customer Service. They may be able to share your screen to see what is happening. We got the IND-517-02 rejection code. I'm trying to confirm that that means it's the second dependent listed on our return. When we first got it, I assumed it was my son who recently filed his taxes incorrectly indicating that no one else can claim him as a dependent.  However, if, as I believe, the 02 means that it's the second listed dependent, that indicates it's my daughter -- who doesn't file taxes.   I know in either case we now need to print and file by mail -- but can someone confirm my understanding of the code so that I can take the appropriate steps.  Is there anyway my co-filing wife could be "01" and my son "02"?
When entering the 1099 NEC, it asks if the payers # is in SSN or EIN form, and I said SSN form and entered that. And now it's asking for the EIN but I don't have one.

Hi experts,     I and family (spouse and child) just move in the U.S at the end of Dec-2024. We had GC on that day. During tax year 2024, I and spouse just have income from outside U.S (not from U.S companies and source of U.S) plus a portion of K-1. My concerns are:   1. Should I and my spouse be treated as residency alien for the full tax year 2024 ? If YES, what's kind of income sources have to be filed? just K-1 or everything world wide ?  2. If filing as dual-status, what's kind of income sources have to be filed in which forms?   3. How can I file tax credit for amount tax paid from foreign income? during the time of nonresident of the year 2024   Thank a lot for your advises

When I go  back into 2023 and amend the return, I enter the 1099 R and am putting the box 1 gross distribution, 2a taxable amount and box 7 has J & P. When I enter "P" it comes up and says Return taxable in "2022". When I am amending do I just not enter the letter P? This is solely for 2023.

Leave all columns A-C on the Sept - Dec lines completely blank; delete any zeros there.   You should only have entries in columns A-C on lines Jan - Aug.      For any month you have an amount in column A, you have to have a positive amount in column B, and any amount (including $0) in column C.   If there is no amount (or $0) in column A, leave all columns blank for that line.

That does explain it.  You didn't previously mention that you had split the rollover between two destinations, so I had assumed that you did not since just rolling over the $6.37 to the Roth IRA (along with the other $90.88 of pre-tax funds that you rolled over to the Roth IRA) would have been far simpler without any significant tax consequence.   To accommodated TurboTax's limitations on dealing with a code-G From 1099-R that reports rollovers to the two different types of IRAs, you must split the Form 1099-R into two for entry into TurboTax.  The one for the rollover to the Roth IRA will have $8,316.77 in box 1, $90.88 in box 2a and $8,225.89 in box 5.  The one for the rollover to the traditional IRA will have $6.37 in box 1, $0 in box 2a and a blank box 5.

Yes, you can file using your transcript.  The transcript doesn't have your state information and the federal identification number for your employer.     I would recommend that you try to get your W2 form from your employer.  This way you would have the complete form and use the transcript as a final resort.     @nijeldavidson464
