What? Do you need to access your past returns? Only you or they can get them. How to Access prior year online returns https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/prior-year-return/help/how-do-i-access-my-prior-year-return/00/27010 If you can't get the side menus to open up to access the prior year..... You need to start entering some basic Personal Info in 2025 for the side menu to open up. Just continue a little ways into 2025. I had to go though about 12 screens. If you used the Desktop CD/Download program then the only copy is on your computer and not saved or stored online. So you need to make and keep your own backups. Or request a transcript from the IRS https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript Or get a copy of your return using form 4506 https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506.pdf

In that case, check your email's spam/junk folder to see if it might have ended up there. You can also verify your email or change the email address if desired (using the steps below.) You can go to your settings in your Intuit account and change or verify your email address there if it's not verified. In the left menu column scroll way down to Intuit Account. Then once in the account choose tab Sign In & Security. See if your email address has a tiny link beside it that says "not verified". If so, click that to verify. Perhaps once you verify it there in the account settings, it won't ask you to verify it again when you are efiling. Or you can change it to a different notifications email address, if needed. If you do, then try to verify it within the account settings. If after all that, you still can't resolve your issue, here's how to reach TurboTax Support 5AM-9PM Pacific, 7 days/week.. FAQ: What is the TurboTax phone number? https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/using-turbotax/help/what-is-the-turbotax-phone-number/00/25632 If you use Free Edition and don't have phone support, another way to reach them if you have social media is to direct message a Support agent: https://x.com/TeamTurboTax or https://www.facebook.com/turbotax

To go back to a lower version or the Free Edition you can try to clear and start over https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/using-turbotax/help/how-do-i-clear-and-start-over-in-turbotax-online/00/26444 If you started your tax return in TurboTax Free Edition (Form 1040 with limited credits; roughly 37% of taxpayers qualify), you won't need to clear and start over. You can select Switch to Free Edition instead. In the Turbo Tax Free Edition, information that you can enter is limited now. Why do I have to upgrade from the Free Edition? https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/upgrading/help/why-do-i-have-to-upgrade-from-free-edition/00/26379 Or try the IRS Free File program https://www.irs.gov/filing/free-file-do-your-federal-taxes-for-free A couple reasons it could be saying you need to upgrade…. You might be seeing this because of form 8959, that goes to Schedule 2. The amount of Medicare taxes withheld in W2 box 6 is not exactly 1.45% of the Medicare wages in box 5, due to rounding. I read a post that said to try leaving the cents off of the Medicare tax on your W2 box 6. Box 6 has to be exactly 1.45% of box 5 or less. If it is saying you need Schedule 3 and can't use the Free Edition it might be giving you the Retirement Savings Credit. You can say you are a student to decline the credit. You must answer Yes when asked in the Retirement Savings Contributions Credit section if your were a full-time student. The answer to this same question asked in the personal-information section is not the answer that is used.

Are you self-employed? If so, your business mileage goes on your Schedule C with your other business expenses. If you are a W-2 employee, sorry, there is no federal deduction for mileage.
-W-2 employees cannot deduct job-related expenses on a federal return. Job-related expenses were eliminated as a federal deduction for W-2 employees by the tax laws that changed for 2018 and beyond. Your state tax laws might be different in AL, AR, CA, HI, MN, NY or PA.
If you are preparing a return for a state that lets you deduct job-related expenses, the information will flow from your federal return to the state return, so enter it in Federal>Deductions and Credits>Employment Expenses>Job-Related Expenses

Federal and state refunds come from completely separate entities, There is no rule as to which one will come first or how much time there will be between their arrivals. Some states process returns quickly and some are very slow.

TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer. “21 days” is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS.
First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:
https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/
Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control. TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.
You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount (line 35a of your 2025 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:
https://www.irs.gov/refunds
To track your state refund:
https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_US_en_US?uid=lt447ebr
If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing

If you are getting earned income credit on line 27 or additional child tax credit on line 28 You are subject to the delay required by the PATH act. Do not expect your refund before early March
https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/internal-revenue-service/federal-refunds-delayed-due-path-act/L5jnQJsBi_US_en_US
Note: “Accepted” is not the same as “approved”. TurboTax tells you the e-file was accepted if the IRS deems that there is enough information on the return for them to take it in for processing. Only the IRS can approve of the refund, which is a later stage of processing. If the IRS approves your refund they will provide a date for the refund to be issued.
FROM THE IRS WHERE’S MY REFUND SITE:

How it works
Where's My Refund shows your refund status:
Return Received – We received your return and are processing it.
Refund Approved – We approved your refund and are preparing to issue it by the date shown.
Refund Sent – We sent the refund to your bank or to you in the mail. It may take 5 days for it to show in your bank account or several weeks for your check to arrive in the mail.

Turbo tax will ask you for the amount in Box 1 and then the amount in Box 2a. So you enter both numbers. TT will then ask you some other questions and determine the taxable amount. Verify it looks correct when you review your 1040 at the end. (Line 4a vs 4b, 5a vs. 5b as appropriate).
Usually, the taxable amount is the amount in box 2a. That is supposed to be the gross amount in Box 1 minus your the return of some of your after-tax contributions in the investment vehicle (retirement plan, insurance, annuity, etc) , making the distribution. Sometimes, however, the financial institution does not have all the information you have (such as after-tax contributions to an IRA that has been rolled overed perhaps multiple times) and so you will have to adjust box 2a to be correct.

Left NY on 2/15/25 so part-year resident from 1/1/25 to 2/15/25. NY Non-Resident and Part-time resident form IT-203 taxes interest using accrued methods (when earned and not when paid) Bank interests and Money Market accounts are easy enough. Paid at end of each month for that month. Asked AI to figure out the 2/15 accrued interest with daily compounding to get the numbers (save me a spreadsheet formula research) More challenging is IRS interests payment (received 1099-INT) from prior year amended returns received after leaving NY. IRS calculate the interest starting with the original due date of the amended tax return (say 4/15/23 for 2022 tax return) and accrues daily based on IRS's quarterly published interest rate until it is issued to the tax payer. I believe this means this the accrued interest payment taxable while a NY resident until 2/15/25. Once again, asked AI to figure out the accrued interest amount on 2/15/25, AI pulled in all the IRS quarterly tax rates and provided a number. Let me know if this is correct for anyone with experience here. AI's output (used Claude) need to be doubled checked of course. It made spreadsheets which I conveniently saved for records.
