The program will ask you the same questions for each identical type form you enter. So every time you enter the 1099-R and indicate that it is a 401/457, you will be asked the same question. This is because a lot of times things apply specifically to that source of income. Ex. If your getting a pension and a spouse is getting a pension, then you would both need to be able to answer the same questions. Or if you are having xyz withheld from pension A and similar but different wxy from pension b, you would need to opportunity to enter all of that.
If you entered the same health insurance premiums both times, then this would be the problem. The program will not catch this as it has no way of knowing what your actual premiums are. You would need to go back through and delete the information about your premiums in one of the 1099-R's. This will lower your refund, but it will not be duplicating a deduction for the same premiums.

The discrepancy might be caused by the fact that state income tax should not be figured into the total on Form 1116 Line 3a. State income tax is a tax based on U.S.-source income amount(s), and should not be figured into the total. From the IRS website Instructions for Form 1116 (2025):
Lines 3a and 3b
Some deductions don’t definitely relate to either your foreign source income or your U.S. source income. Enter on lines 3a and 3b any deductions (other than interest expense) that:
Aren’t shown on line 2, and
Aren’t definitely related to your U.S. source income.
Line 3a.
Include the following itemized deductions (from Schedule A (Form 1040)) on line 3a.
Medical expenses (line 4).
General sales taxes.
Real estate taxes for your home.
State and local personal property taxes.
If you don’t itemize deductions, enter your standard deduction on line 3a.
If you recalculate your Line 3a on your own including just the above listed itemized deductions (medical expenses, general sales tax, home real estate tax, and state and local property tax) - do you still have a discrepancy between that and what the software is showing?

I had your problem and many more besides and finally downloaded the 2025 TurboTax to my desktop and filled it out locally. I will not use TurboTax online in the future as I wasted over 10hrs on repeat uploads of forms, misleading directions, and incompetent "customer support."

FULL AGREE. I've been using Turbo Tax since 2008 when I graduated college and got my first W2 job This will be my last year - Intuit 100% knew there was an error on their end surrounding form 5695 and like you said; took my money anyway. I don't have the energy to fight them for a refund and will just wait until the 14th... They should pay me for the anxiety they caused when I got text and email alerts saying the IRS rejected my return. Then when you follow their troubleshooting guide, my error code isn't even listed...shame all around.

First time doing married filing separately, and we are in CA so we had to do community property adjustments, including for tax withholding. I was prompted by TT that when you do this withholding adjustment, you cannot e-file federal returns. Instead, it looks like I can e-file my federal and state returns, but my wife can only e-file her federal return, but not her state return. I would expect it to be consistent for both of us. What did I do wrong? Thank you!

Yes, but you can enter a capital loss carryover in TurboTax Online. You find the option under Investments and Savings, in the Wages and Income Summary section. Look for Capital Loss Carryover.

After the headache of seeing my reduced fed yesterday, magically everything landed in my account today. Relieved about that; However was charged twice for my fees. Waiting for a callback and this better get resolved. I’ve used TurboTax for years, but thinking otherwise next year. The representatives were so inconsistent and left me feeling uneasy. Not to mentioned the first one I talked to yesterday just read verbatim why my fed would be lower, blaming the IRS and reasons why they could have lowered it. I’d rather pay the money to speak to a real professional and not go through the stress TT is putting us through.

It depends. There is not a specific age requirement for the Pension Income Deduction. It is based on the type of retirement you are receiving and the rules to be eligible for that plan.
The maximum amount of the deduction is $48,216 per individual.
There is an income phase-out for eligibility for the pension exclusion. If your federal adjusted gross income is more than $125,000 and you are single or married filing separately then the deduction begins to phase out. The deduction is NOT available if your federal AGI is over $225,000 if single or MFS. So depending on the amount of your 401k withdrawal, you may or may not qualify for some or all of the exclusion.

Yes, the Federal ID number on your W-2 can be used when TurboTax doesn't like the State ID number. Sometimes it's too large for the entry box; sometimes it's too small.

If you already e-filed you are stuck with "5 days early" if the return is accepted. If it rejects you can try to remove that option in the FILE section before you re-file.
"5 days early" means you are supposed to receive your refund from one to five days sooner than the refund date shown on the IRS refund site. If it does not meet that "at least one day sooner" date, they are supposed to refund the $35 fee.
You have to pay attention to the date on the IRS refund site.
You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount (line 35a of your 2025 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:
