It might apply. Same circumstances happening to others. Are you sure you have the right version of C++ installed?
Absolutely. Did that repair first...........in fact, several times after unstalling and cleaning out the computer before re-installing the software.
Taxuser18: Thanks for sharing your steps to resolve the issue. It worked for me as well.
The what now??
Thank you so much.
My MS update happened feb 2 and using your steps to repair Visual C++ fixed my turbo tax error.
I agree...I spent over 10 hrs on 2 separate occasions with TT on the phone and the final talk, the agent just said "you should call Amazon (I'd bought the download from Amazon) because I don't know how to fix your problem. Both TT agents I talked with said that I was using an activation code supplied by Amazon and it was for a MAC OS, not Windows. I told the agent no, when you do the download, it asks if you are downloading it for Windows or MAC..there is not two different activation codes. But they just didn't get it. I've been a loyal user of Turbo Tax since 1993...this is the final straw. I'll find another tax software next year. Intuit just doesn't care about the problems customers are having with TT.
Good news.......I finally got the software to work. Not sure what I did but it finally opened. After the last time I uninstalled it I just let it sit for about a week until I decided to try it again. I cleaned out my files and cache (using CCleaner), checked to make sure I had the C++ current, turned off the computer and hard booted it back up then downloaded the software again. I then closed all other windows and tried to install and lo and behold it worked this time. The one thing that happened was it said it needed to download a different C++, so I let it do it's thing. When I went in and looked at it I did discover that when I did the repair before it had actually put the X86 version in, even though it was the version number that everyone was saying was correct. It actually looked as though TT had downloaded something different. The longer version number....ie 12.xxxxxx was different than what was said here. I don't know if that made a difference or not. I never got that far before. I went through everything and didn't have any problems downloading any info including hubby's W-2 and info from our investment account. Went through the whole thing for both federal and 1 state and got it e-filed without any problems. I did find it lagged on updating things as I went along but would be OK after a bit.
The one big thing that was different was I used my VPN the whole time. Can't imagine how that would have helped but I read someone mention their VPN.
A sigh of relief and a load of stress off me as I was starting to panic. Hope everyone else finally finds success.
This worked! Do exactly what it says: uninstall c++ then (go to Microsoft)for the c++ version mentioned, download, install it, restart, good to go.
Thank You!
Please, please provide me the specific steps that you used to make this correction.
Would greatly appreciate it.
Error just started today and the help line was totally helpless….this board is a life saver.

Repair of Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x64) - 14.40.33810 did the trick for me. I did not have to uninstall/reinstall
My steps
Control Panel
Programs and featuers
Scroll down to the Microsoft Redistributable and highlight
Select Change up towards the top and then repair.
Many Thanks…..before I try….not that much of a techie AND know that many others would appreciate your professional detailed insights….how about a few screen shots, kindly? Grateful thanks.
so is this C++ Redistributable you mention already on my (Microsoft) PC?
Highlight the Microsoft Redistributable, not open it?
please explain in more detail - “Select Change up towards the top”….
is “repair” an option in “change” above?
how does one find 3380?
MANY THANKS
PS …
so literally “holding my heart in my hand” I tried the just above instructions….
searched for control panel….did steps and found specific C++ but one for (64)…..top change button didn't work so right-clicked on it when highlighted…..had to restart….
AND IT WORKED….great, sincere thanks to wise people above on this Board…
IF ANYONE RESPONSIBLE FOR TURBOTAX READS THIS PLEASE IMMEDIATELY ENSURE THAT EACH AND EVERY CUSTOMER SERVICE PERSON KNOWS, AND PUT IT IN YOUR DATABASE…..THE LEAST THAT WE CAN EXPECT….
Thanks all!
