Wrong data populated into line 1a

I just completed the online 1040 turbotax and after I hit file and paid via credit card I was finally able to download the actual 1040.  When reviewing line 1a is completely wrong.  When I look back on the website my data is accurate but it didn't pull over correctly.  Now I can't reach anyone who knows anything.  I'm so frustrated and will try again tomorrow on a weekday maybe I'll get a second level support.  Has anyone had the same error?

You cannot change or add anything on the return that you just e-filed, nor can you stop it.  It is too late, just like when you put an envelope in a US mailbox on the corner.  The IRS does not allow you to take it back.

If you left out a W-2, a 1099G, or a dependent, or a 1099 etc…DO NOT change your return while it is “pending.”  The changes will go nowhere.

Now you have to wait until the IRS either rejects or accepts your return.  If your return is rejected, you will be able to go into your account and make the necessary changes to your tax return and re-submit your return.

If the IRS accepts your return, however, then you have to wait longer until it has been fully processed and you have received your refund.  THEN you can prepare an amended tax return and e-file or mail  it in. You have to be able to work from that return exactly the way it was when it was e-filed originally.  You will need to use a form called a 1040X.

Meanwhile, DO NOT go in and start changing anything on your return in the system, or you will make a mess for yourself.  Sit tight and wait until you see what the IRS does with the return you just e-filed

The Form 1040X you need becomes available in late February,  But wait until your return has been processed.

1040 line 1a for W2?  What’s wrong with it?  Did you add up all your W2s box 1?  Is it too much or too little?  Are there any letters by it like SCH HSH or DCB?

@conneam   You said you looked at the return after paying for it in the File section, but didn't outright say if you continued on after that and submitted the return.  i.e., it's not clear if you actually efiled the return or not.   Hopefully, you didn't go all the way to the final screen and click on an orange button to transmit the return until you figure this out.

You wrote:  "When I look back on the website my data is accurate but it didn't pull over correctly."

What website is that referring to?   Are you referring to the TurboTax website and saying when you look back through the interview section of the TurboTax website, the W-2 data did not flow correctly to Line 1a of the Form 1040?  Or did you import your W-2 data into TurboTax from your employer/payroll provider website, and it imported incorrectly?

Do you have a single W-2 or multiple W-2 forms?

Wrong data populated into line 1a

I don't recall if the final submit button color was but it had me pay via credit card and said it's been subbed and I can now download.

Once Downloaded I noticed immediately line 1a on 1040 was grossly under what I hand entered in the turbotax website interview field.  We had one w2.  I went back to the home page on turbotax website and reviewed what I entered from field 1 on my w2 and it's accurate.  It's not being carried over to the 1040 form correctly.

Also when I log back into my account I'm not able to see the status of my taxes and says I haven't filed yet.

If it wasn't filed why did it email me a confirmation and allow me to download the completed file?

Also, is there a section on the turbotax website where you can view if taxes were submitted to government?  I don't see any areas that confirm it.

Paying for the return is what allows you view/print/download it.  Many people pay and review it before finishing the filing process, as they should.  Does the email confirmation you received actually say something like "Congratulations! your return has been submitted to the IRS?"  Or is it an order confirmation for your payment?

In order to actually submit the return, after paying one would have had to continue on through additional screens, such as verifying your 2023 AGI and electronically "signing" the return by entering a 5-digit PIN (where you choose any 5 digits), and entering birth date and today's date.  After that one would then proceed to a final screen with a "Transmit My Returns Now" button.    If you didn't, that would be a good thing in this instance since you first need to figure out what is going on with your 1040, Line 1a.

Another way to check on the status of the return to see if it was efiled or if it is still in the preparation stage is to log into your Online TurboTax account and go to the Tax Home page (it may already open there).  If it doesn't open at the Tax Home, click on the Tax Home tab in the left menu column.   When you log in, does the Tax Home page say "Hi (your name), let's keep working on your taxes?" and shows various categories to go to topics in your return, such as your W-2 area?  If so, that implies return is still in the preparation phase.

In contrast, whenever TurboTax thinks someone has finished and/or filed, the Tax Home would tell the status of the return using one of these terms:   pending, accepted, rejected, started, printed, ready to mail, or something else?

Thank you so much for the information.  My taxes haven't been filed and I was able re-enter everything to make sure of accuracy.  I've now received confirmation they've been filed with state and federal.  I wish the website was a bit easier to use.  Was confusing at the end to pay and get confirmation yet not have them filed yet.

You're welcome.   I'm glad you hadn't filed and were able to correct everything.  I presume that before filing you printed another copy to make sure the Form 1040, Line 1a is now OK.    I'm still puzzled why the Form 1040 Line 1a was less than your W-2 income when you printed out originally .   Did you find any clue to explain the original discrepancy?     Sometimes when weird things happen with a W-2, it can be cleared up by deleting the W-2 and re-entering it.   In any case, good luck!    Hopefully your returns will be accepted soon.   Word on the Federal return will come first.    The state return cannot be accepted until the Federal return has been accepted.
