For those who timely filed by midnight 10/17 and are REJECTED you have 5 days (up until 10/22/23) to correct the error and resubmit the return. No NEW filings will be allowed thru the TT system ... they will have to be mailed in.
END OF YEAR STEPS FOR ONLINE USERS
E-file servers are shut down for the year for personal returns. No exceptions! You won't be able to work on your return or get a copy of it after Oct 22.
If you have already filed your return I would double check that both federal and state were accepted here,
https://shop.turbotax.intuit.com/efile/efile_status_lookup.jsp
If you haven't filed or finished yet you only have until Oct 17 to finish and efile. If you efile by Oct 17 you should still save and print out the pdf file NOW so you can mail it in case your efile gets rejected and you are not able to get it to go through.
If you don't efile by Oct 17 you will have to print and mail it. If you don't finish your return you will have to switch to the Desktop program. So you might want to switch NOW. To switch from online to desktop and continue in the desktop version see this…….

You can buy a cd or download the program here https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download
or look around at stores for sales. Or if you already paid for the Online version you can call in and ask if they will switch you over. Contact Customer Service https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1899263-what-is-the-turbotax-phone-number?jump_to=answer_3300041
BEFORE OCT 17
Either way if you have already filed or not filed you should save both the .tax file and the pdf file to your computer so you will always have access to it. You might need to amend it or need a copy to get a loan, etc.

AFTER OCT 17
October 22, 2022 is the Final deadline to resubmit a rejected return that was originally e-filed on or before October 17. If you're expecting a refund and miss the October 22 final cutoff date, you have until April 15, 2025 (October 15, 2025 if you filed an extension) to file a paper return and claim your 2021 refund.
Their customer service is closed.
I haven't paid for Turbotax Online yet but should I if I want to keep MAX?
When going for the PC version, I don't see a way to add MAX to it.
Will I be able to add on MAX after I purchase and download Turbotax for Dektop?
No. What is Max. Max is only for Online paid versions

You can buy Audit Defense in the Desktop program. See Difference between Audi Support and Audit Defense

Most of you are right. In the past we have "closed" to start prepping for the new tax year. However, this year we'll "stay open" a bit longer. Customers will be able to file until Nov. 30th (with exceptions, please see below).
Here are some dates to keep in mind:
Oct 17th - Last day to “timely file” an initial return for which an Extension has been previously requested
Oct 18th - TTOnline will be turning away new or not started customers
Oct 22nd - Last day to “timely file” a perfected/amended (previously rejected) return for which an Extension has been previously requested.
Oct 31st - TTOnline will start turning away all TY21 filings,
Nov 15th - All customers will be turned away for TY21
Nov 30th - TTLive Full Service Amended returns end
If I started but didn't file and it wasn't rejected by irs either, then I have no chance to use TTOnline anymore correct?
Is there a deadline for when I have to purchase Turbotax 2021 for desktop by?
That is correct. You can finish preparing your return but you cannot e-file. Get it finished and ready to mail before October 31. If you wait too long then you will also lose the chance to use the online software.
It will have to be filed by mail.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
Something isn't making sense to me.
So even if I didn't file or my return hasn't rejected if started my tax on Turbotax Online, then I still have until Oct. 31 to efile through TT Online?
I had thought this is only true if I submitted but it got rejected.
If you did not attempt to e-file by October 17, then it is too late for you to e-file. Only people who tried to e-file before or on the deadline day of October 17 and had rejected e-files get that five day grace period. Sorry---you cannot e-file if you did not attempt to e-file on October 17.
You can still use the online software to finish preparing your return, but the only way you can file it is by mail now. Once you have it prepared you have to print, sign and mail it.
If you log into your online account that you already started this is the message you will get ...
@Critter-3 So....wait....did I misunderstand what TT is allowing this year? Are they letting online users who did not try to e-file before October 17 still e-file by October 31? That is different from past years, right? What about desktop users?
It is different from prior years ... review the note from the moderator in my prior answer. I have several test accounts in various stages of completeness ... so refer to the screenshot I posted.
And I would venture the desktop users would also be allowed up to 10/31. Later dates are allowed for those with amended returns if qualified ... read the note.
