After you file
That is correct. You can finish preparing your return but you cannot e-file. Get it finished and ready to mail before October 31. If you wait too long then you will also lose the chance to use the online software.
It will have to be filed by mail.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
Here are some dates to keep in mind:
Oct 17th - Last day to “timely file” an initial return for which an Extension has been previously requested
Oct 18th - TTOnline will be turning away new or not started customers
Oct 22nd - Last day to “timely file” a perfected/amended (previously rejected) return for which an Extension has been previously requested.
Oct 31st - TTOnline will start turning away all TY21 filings,
- TY20, TY21 Amend will still be open for entitled users.
- TY19 Amend will shutdown
- EF Rejected users can still fix and resubmit
Nov 15th - All customers will be turned away for TY21
Nov 30th - TTLive Full Service Amended returns end
