Why is SBTPG holding refunds?

I do not have a number. I get the same recording almost 5 months later; check will be posted in 2 days, etc. I reported them to IRS and they have promised to look into situation and put a trace on check. It will be 120 days wait but it's a move in the right direction. I would suggest everyone reporting to IRS because they did their part; they sent funds to this bank.

Your tax refund was not sent to TurboTax.   TurboTax does not handle your refund at all.

Santa Barbara Tax Products Group, LLC  (SBTPG) is the bank that handles the Refund Processing Service when you choose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your refund. This option also has an additional charge from the bank that processes the transaction.

Smh Unfortunately there is no number. When turbotax sends you a notification that your taxes were received it means that the SBTPG has it, there is a website with SBTPG where you can put in your social and your filing status and your information on your refund should be shown, and if they have it then that means they are taking there fees and they direct deposit it to you in 1-2 business days. But be AWARE  SBTPG, takes out more fees than what you agreed too smh It's better to pay whatever fees turbotax asks you to pay right away than letting them take it out of your refund because that's when that stupid SBTPG bank takes there fees first then sends you whatever smh

You do not have to use TurboTax ever again if you do not want to.   But you need to be aware that no matter what tax software program you choose to use in the future ---- when you choose to have the fees deducted from your federal refund there will always be a fee for that choice, and there will always be a stipulation that you have to pay your fees within an allotted amount of time whether your refund arrives or not.   So avoid that situation.   Pay your software fees upfront.

I received a letter from the IRS in April 2022 saying they owed me money from an amended 2020 return. It was sent to SBTPG because I had my fees taken out that year. Obviously the account was closed. I called and SBTPG confirmed they had the money and it was in the process of being returned to the IRS. This was still in April. The IRS put a trace on the funds as well. I received a letter today Nov 28th 2022 from the IRS saying the trace was finished and that the money was deposited into the account at SBTPG and the response they received from SBTPG which they said that they deposited the money to me! Which is a lie! They are still holding my money and lying about it! I don't know what else to do!

@Sassycassie58 suggest contacting SPTG - ask for the date of the ACH transfer from their bank to yours for direct deposit*.  if they were able to provide it to the IRS, they can provide it to you; then check your bank account records to confirm receipt....start there.

if they say they sent a check that was cashed, ask for a copy of the cancelled check .

I’m dealing with the same issue. SBTPG has bad my refund since September 14th 2022. I filed an amendment on August 8th 2022 and was lucky enough to have it processed and my updated refund sent out in a little over a month. My luck then ran out because ever since SBTPG has had my money, I haven’t had hope of getting back. I was expecting a paper check bc that’s what TurboTax said but for some reason, even though turbotax was already paid their fees earlier this year when I filed (again, this refund being held is from an amendment) TurboTax still sent my money to SBTPG. I found out on October 17th 2022 that SBTPG has my money. I emailed them and they told me to send in my id and they would lift a hold they had on my funds. SBTPG also told me that they tried to deposit my funds twice and my bank rejected it both times but my bank has no record of either deposit attempt.

now SBTPG said in an email that they sent my money back to the IRS on October 21st 2022. SBTPG’s website also says this. However, the IRS still has not received the funds as of November 29th 2022. 
Would you please send me the contact info of the people you spoke to at SBTPG who helped you get your money? When you post it out spaces in between the @ symbol otherwise this site will block out their email. They block all emails for privacy concerns. I don’t know what else to do. I’ve contacted the Federal Reserve because someone else told me that they helped them get their money but that’s all I can do for now unless you can share those contacts.

How long did it take to get your deposit agree you sent over your identification? I had to do this today!

My refund was deposited after they took their fees, and it was sent to me the same day or the next.

@Bnovitsky3836 Don’t send anything. Trust! I’ve been fighting for the last 10 months for my refund. Reach out to the FDIC or the federal reserve! That’ll get this matter fixed faster than the runaround you’ll be given. I finally received notif.. that SBTPG returned my refund to the IRS 10/7/22 after my “Rejected” DD 2/24/22 and here it is now 12/22 (2 months later) and the IRS has finally confirmed my refund is in their system. 😅 Thank you GOD. 🙏🏾 If you wait around for SBTPG too return your refund on their own doing, you better get your blanket/pillows ready. DO NOT SEND ID, FILL OUT INDEMNITY BOND FORMS, ETC! It’s just another way too delay your delivery and have them illegally deduct from your return. I did it once and caught on immediately. Reach out to those financial institutions and go from there. Good luck!!

Sbtpg is holding my refund as well it was supposed to be sent back to irs October 21 told me it would take 10weeks they closed my account now I can’t contact them to see what’s going on with my refund the irs still not updated saying anything about my refund being returned only that it was sent august 24th for direct deposit I went to check the status like I normally do on sbtpg but my info was not working but I checked it back December now all of a sudden the account is gone but the irs doesn't have my money back they our holding people refunds so the can collect interest off people money this is not cool they took there fees and won’t give me my money knowing the irs has there own time frame to mail the check

Sbtpg was supposed to have sent my refund back on October 21 they had my refund since august 24th they told me it would take 10 weeks for the irs to receive my refund but how if it was sent back on October fast forward it’s now January and I haven’t seen an update from the irs that it was returned and nothing about mailing a check I tried to put my info in on sbtpg like I always do but it was not allowing me to acces the info that it usually gives me which is the fees that was deducted and balance and the day my refund was returned now I don’t have access to no information I can’t call sbtpg because they ask for the same info before putting me through which is my social and filing status and amount to be received same thing irs ask they deleted my account and didn’t send none of my money back they our stealing refunds to make interest of the money it’s not fair and even if they send it back I still have to wait for irs to mail me a check inconsiderate money hungry bank and why isn’t turbo tax protecting there customers

I've been waiting since April 2022 for them to return my funds to the IRS. The irs still hasn't received anything from them. I'm at a loss at this point
