It's not local. If you google it, it's the IRS Tax Advocate. There is a special department at the IRS called the tax advocate department. You will have to answer questions if you are behind in rent, car payments, or medical bills before you are approved to talk to one. In other words waiting for your tax refund has caused you financial hardship. If you have those things they will have you talk to an advocate and they essentially could help get your refund sooner. They will investigate and even give a date for the refund to be released. Good luck.
My status has been saying that “my taxes is still being processed” fir a while now?
@Stimulus21 If you taxes are still being processed it means the IRS is still looking at your tax return. The IRS took 29 million tax returns offline for manual processing.
Common reasons are because the stimulus payments claimed on the return do not match IRS records or 2019 income was used for the Earned Income Tax Credit or Child Tax Credit. The IRS computers were not set up to verify those amounts.
The IRS can research the status of your refund if it has been more than 21 days since your return was accepted and you still have not gotten your money. Call 1-800-829-1040. Be aware. The phone lines are backed up. The IRS opens at 7 a.m. local time in every time zone. The earlier you call, the better your chance of speaking with someone.
We got our stimulus check, but where’s our tax refund? I can’t even look it up anymore
we got the stimulus. the third one. i personally got the first one for me and my daughter but my hubby hasent gotten none. and we still haven’t gotten our tax return back
@Rachaelnfred I finally got my Refund approved and they schedule to mail it to me by the 14th. Which it’s my 1st and 2nd stimulus checks that I had to do taxes to claim both of them. And hopefully after I get it they’ll know that I didn’t get my 3rd stimulus check either. Hopefully I’ll get that after I get my refund. I hope that you get your tax return
I finally got a refund date. I filed in March 2020, yes f... 14 months ago. Calling IRS a thousand times didn't do anything for me as they are the problem not the solution. My status disappeared around January. I called the internal advocate and a month went by and nothing. I called my district representative office and that's when things got expedited. They contacted the IRS advocate and 1 week later my status was back. My return was approved 1 week after that. They pay 3% interest which a joke considering I am paying at least 20% on my credit cards. I considered going to court of federal claims if all this doesn't work. It is your right to be treated fair by the IRS and get proper response in 6 months. You only have two years to try this though. Only if I knew this last year... I hope you are not like me sitting home thinking the government would take care of you. Take the necessary steps.
I sent mine February 24th and was accepted same day. I still do not have my return. When I log into the IRS where's my refund- it says there is no information and is still processing. I'm getting very nervous- I know there is a back log, but 3 months is a long time to be in queue. Is anyone else's still being processed after this long?

Yes! I’m in the exact same boat. Accepted end of Feb still processing. I’m not counting on it anytime soon. Maybe before the end of the year 😳. There are a lot of us in the same situation. It seems if you claimed earned income credit they put you into a manual review among millions of others.
i filed 2/23 and i called last week i was told it came out review on 4/30 and i should get my return with in 3 weeks i am on my 2nd week and still says the same still bing processed and no money or later
@Cburns8577 The IRS is running behind. If your return is still showing are being processed in Where's My Refund? you can call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 for an update. Be aware. The phone lines are backed up. The IRS opens at 7 a.m. local time in every time zone. The earlier you call, the better your chance of speaking with someone.
These phone numbers and processes do NOT work. They hang up on you within the first minute. Calling the IRS ...IF you get through results in them saying "wait longer". This a problem that likely won't be addressed properly and the truth of the matter is that this is our government and nothing will be done to help. It's just all bad and we'll be waiting for quite some more time with no answers that actually help. It would be nice if the IRS would at LEAST update those messages with an apology for the delay and acknowledge that this is an issue within the company or something to bring people peace of mind that they are not being ignored.
According to this IRS update as of May 7th:
The IRS is now opening mail within normal timeframes. The IRS has also made significant progress in processing prior year returns. As of April 30, 2021, we had 1 million individual tax returns received prior to 2021 in the processing pipeline. Including current year returns, as of April 30, 2021, we had 17.1 million unprocessed individual returns in the pipeline. Unprocessed returns include those requiring correction to the Recovery Rebate Credit amount or validation of 2019 income used to figure the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC). This work does not require us to correspond with taxpayers but does require special handling by an IRS employee so, in these instances, it is taking the IRS more than 21 days to issue any related refund. If, as a result, a correction is made to any RRC, EITC or ACTC claimed on the return, the IRS will send taxpayers an explanation. Taxpayers are encouraged to continue to check Where’s My Refund? for their personalized refund status and can review Tax Season Refund Frequently Asked Questions.
How long you may have to wait: The IRS understands the importance of timely processing of tax returns and refund issuance. We are processing returns received over the summer and fall in 2020 due to the extended July 15, 2020 tax filing due date. While the majority of 2019 refund returns have been processed, in some cases, we are processing tax returns that were mailed with a payment even though payment associated with these returns have been processed by the IRS. However, we are rerouting tax returns and taxpayer correspondence from locations that are behind to locations where more staff is available, and we are taking other actions to minimize any delays. Tax returns are opened in the order received. As the return is processed, it may be delayed because it has a mistake including errors concerning the Recovery Rebate Credit, is missing information, or there is suspected identity theft or fraud. If we can fix it without contacting you, we will. If we need more information or need you to verify that it was you who sent the tax return, we will write you a letter. The resolution of these issues depends on how quickly and accurately you respond, and the ability of IRS staff trained and working under social distancing requirements to complete the processing of your return.
What you should do: If you filed electronically and received an acknowledgement, you do not need to take any further action other than promptly responding to any requests for information. If you filed on paper, check Where’s my refund? If it tells you we have received your return or are processing or reviewing it, we are processing your return, but it may be under review. We’re working hard to get through the backlog. Please don’t file a second tax return or contact the IRS about the status of your return.
I have spoken to someone and I was told last week from the 30th of April I should get my refund within 3weeks this 2nd week from them saying that and still no change
