My tax return that I filed for was never sent to the IRS. What do I need to do now to fix this?

Did you e-file your tax return and was it accepted?
You complete your tax return by finishing all 3 Steps in the File section. In Step 3, to e-file your tax return, you must click on the large Orange button labeled "Transmit my returns now".
After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.
Did you do this?
Sign onto your TurboTax online account and the status of the tax return will be displayed - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/
If the status of the tax return is anything other than Accepted the tax return was not e-filed.

My home screen says it’s all finished and that it’s ready to be mailed but I called the IRS and they said they haven’t received anything for me and that there isn’t even a rejection under my name

Sorry but Printed or Ready to Mail means you have to actually print out your tax return and mail it to the IRS or state yourself. So if you didn't mail it then it has not been filed yet. And it will always say Ready to Mail. Turbo Tax doesn’t know if or when you mailed it and the IRS doesn’t update Turbo Tax when they get your mailed return. You can try to switch to efile. Click on Add a State to let you back into your retun.
Or if you want to mail a return from the Online version
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS received the return. Don’t forget state.
Important! Mail Federal and State in separate envelopes and mail each year in separate envelopes.
"Ready to mail" means ready for YOU to print, sign and mail yourself. TurboTax does not mail it for you.

How could I switch it to e-file?
Guess you didn't see my post above.
