Same here; March 26 file and withdrawal and the IRA finally took it out today! I'm glad I didn't pay online too!

Tax Payment

Mystery solved for me. Human error on my part. Received letter from IRS that my direct debit could not be processed due to 'invalid account number structure.' Double-checked with my financial institution. Used the irs.gov/directpay link to pay the balance due. Good luck to those of you who are still in limbo. I appreciated receiving all the info from those of you who are knowledgeable in tax matters.

Tax Payment

Curious if this issue has been resolved? I scheduled my payment to be taken out on 4/15 but it has not been withdrawn from my account.

Do you have the number? I think we should all call.

The IRS is seriously backlogged again this year due to the new tax law changes among other things so all balance due returns are on the back burner so that the limited staff can concentrate on putting out  third stimulus checks, processing returns with refunds on them ,  re computing returns already filed affected by the recent retroactive tax law changes  AND catching up on the millions of 2019 returns that still have not been processed.

So payment debits are being delayed again this year and will not happen until they get around to actually processing the return.     So if your return has been ACCEPTED for processing and you check  the payment information you entered  and if it is correct  then write out the amount in your account on the day it was supposed to go and eventually it will be.  There will be no penalties or interest if the IRS failed to make the debit on time as long as the request was done correctly on a timely filed return.

How do I review the method I chose to pay my federal income tax with, after filing with TurboTax Online?

You can verify the tax payment method you chose on the Electronic Filing Instructions for your 2020  Federal Tax Return page, next to Balance Due/Refund. To see the page, follow these instructions:

  1. Open your return if it’s not already open.
  2. On the [Your name], your 2020  federal return was accepted! screen, scroll down and select Add a State (don’t worry, we’re not adding a state) to access your tax forms and worksheets.
  3. On the left side select Tax Tools then Print Center.
  4. On the TurboTax Print Center screen, select Print, save or preview this year’s return.
  5. On the next TurboTax Print Center screen, select 2020 federal returns and Include government and TurboTax worksheets (optional) then select View or print forms.
  6. The information will be on the first page, Electronic Filing Instructions for your 2020 Federal or State Tax Return next to Balance Due/Refund.

In the future may I suggest you pay the federal (and state if allowed) directly on the fed or state websites ... this way you have the control on the timing and get an instant confirmation of the payment.   https://www.irs.gov/payments

Also, you can view your balance and check your payment activity at IRS Paying Your Taxes.

Tax Payment

I filed on April 14th, with payment to be withdrawn on the 15th, my payment has not been withdrawn, when I went back into my return I noticed my routing number and account number are not there.  I know they were there when I filed, is this a glitch?  How can it be resolved?

If you selected Direct Debit from your bank account to pay the Federal taxes owed, that information was sent with your e-filed federal tax return.

Look at the Federal Information Worksheet in Part V.  The bank name, routing number, account number and the date you selected to pay the taxes owed will be entered.  If you did not select Direct Debit from your bank account then nothing will be in Part V.  Look on your Federal Filing Instruction page for how you selected to pay the Federal taxes owed.

To access your current or prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the userID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

When you sign onto your online account and land on the Tax Home web page, scroll down and click on Add a state.

This will take you back to the 2020 online tax return.

Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen.  Then click on Print Center.  Then click on Print, save or preview this year's return.  Choose the option Include government and TurboTax worksheets

For the State taxes owed the same type of information will be on the State Information Worksheet in Part V of the worksheet and on the State Filing Instructions page.

However most states, if not all, do not allow state taxes owed to be paid by Direct Debit when using tax preparation software.  They require the payment by Direct Debit only when using the State tax authorities website.

NOW IF EVERYTHING IS CORRECT :  be patient as the IRS is way behind in processing balance due returns so write the amount off in your account and one day it will be gone.  The debit could take months like they did last year so just be patient ... the ball is in the IRS court now.

BUT IF THE DEBIT INFO IS INCORRECT OR MISSING :  you have until 5/17 to make the payment either by mailing in a check or paying directly online as www.IRS.gov/payments ... if you owe the state see your state's website for payment options.

I filed on 4/4 with the same date for the IRS to debit my account. I received the e-mail on 4/4 that the return was accepted, however when I logged into the IRS website and downloaded my account transcript it shows the return was received on 4/15. Perhaps the 7-10 day waiting time began for me on 4/15?  I guess I have to keep waiting for the IRS to debit my bank account?

Tax Payment

I filed 3/26 with a payment of 3/29 - it is finally showing as withdrawn yesterday 4/19! Hooray!

So if I understand this correctly, turbo tax transmits to IRS - when IRS processes they direct to IRS e-file payment services.  Meaning if you call the IRS payment services number after 7 to 10 days (as directed) - they won't have any info if the IRS hasn't processed your return yet.  If you call the IRS number, and if the call connects, you'll waste time navigating through menus only to be randomly disconnected after sitting on hold.  If only they made payment tracking as easy as refund tracking... but I'd prefer not to make interest free loans to the government 😄

@Big Sandwich

ALL transcripts will show the filing deadline on the transcripts no matter when you efile the return ... this is SOP.  This year they may not have the date updated yet to 5/17.

As I posted before ... if your debit info is correct and the return is accepted all you can do is wait for the payment to happen.   Just write the amount out of your account as if it is already gone because one day it will be... don't think you can spend it today and replace it tomorrow because according to murphy's law that is the night the debit will try to happen.

Same issue here.    It is almost 10 days will wait a couple more days.   Who do you call for a status and what do we so if it prolongs getting pulled out of our accounts?

Did anyone get a response from Turbotax that is better than wait 10 days and the extension communications which I can get from the news?

Once the IRS has your debit info then TT has done its job by delivering the information and now it is up to the IRS/State to complete the transaction  and TT gets no further information on the situation.

Filed April 3rd, received confirmation but Fed hasn't taken payment yet for Fed Tax. State tax already sent my refund. Could TurboTax have an issue facilitating Fed debit payments? Or is the Fed behind on processing debit from eFile via TurboTax? Last Friday would be 10 business days so now I am getting concerned.
