Can I e-file federal and state after printing out forms

NOTE:   When using a PIN to efile with this year, the only PIN that will work is the Self-Select PIN from last year (the one where you chose the 5 digits.)   An efile PIN provided by the IRS in 2015 was only good that year, and will not work again, unless you happened to have used it for your Self-Select PIN as well.

The other option is to leave the PIN field blank and verify with the AGI field by entering the 2015 AGI from your original (not amended) return.

See my note above about the PIN.

As long as you have not actually filed (actually mailed or efiled), here's how to change filing methods if TurboTax thinks you are finished:

  • Log in and go to your 2016 Tax Timeline.
  • If TurboTax thinks you are finished, there will be no orange "Take me to my return" button.
  • So in that case, scroll down to "Some things you can do."
  • Choose "Add a State."  (you don't really add one; that's just to get the return to open up.)
  • Once the return is open, go through the REVIEW tab to be sure all is still in order.
  • Then go to through the FILE tab and change the filing method to "efile."
  • Be sure you go all the way to the end to the final screen which has a button "Transmit Returns Now" and click that.

NOTE:  Do NOT use this method to open a return to make changes/edits to an already-filed return (one that has actually been mailed or efiled.)   If you later need to make changes to an already-filed return, you have to go through the formal amending process, and your return must start off exactly as originally filed.

My federal and state was accepted by North Carolina but when I open my return I did not see any signature or pin number in the fields of the return where it was required it's been 6 weeks since I filed and it was accepted I day later I was wondering if the lack of a PIN number being on my return this year it's stopping my money from being sent to me (I e filed through TurboTax). I'm guessing since that it said my return was accepted that I do not have to amend anything

@Jtm3041792 If your returns were accepted, a PIN is not an issue.

Many refunds are taking longer this year due to the pandemic.  Do not even think about amending--that would not help you get a refund any faster--it would confuse the IRS and delay you more.

IRS phone lines supported by customer service representatives for both taxpayers and tax professionals are not staffed at this time. To check on regular tax refund status via automated phone, call 800-829-1954. (This line has no information on Economic Impact Payments.)

TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer.  Many refunds are taking longer during the pandemic.

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control. TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 20 of your Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing.

Okay thank you but can you answer me this? When I filed this year on the 28th of April I found out about the stimulus payment and I found out that mine was going to be mailed on May 6th I recently moved and no longer stay at the address on my previous tax return from 2018. Since I filed before the date my payment was to be mailed will they have my new address on my 2019 return for the direct deposit information on my 2019 return and if so how long will it take for me to get either the check or the direct deposit? Because I am unable to reach my old residence to check if the check actually was sent there instead of where I'm living now
