Having same issue as many on here...TurboTax saying both my Federal and State (Michigan) taxes have been "accepted" but my federal taxes show as "being processed" on the IRS Where's My Refund tool, and my state taxes show as "Pending Review." I filed both via TurboTax on 2/13 and it is now 3/17.
I have not gotten any answers as to my Federal taxes, however I did receive an email back from State that says:
"Your 2020 income tax return is pending review. The computer system selected your return for a manual review, requiring additional processing time. This process can take up to 12 weeks to complete. If further information is necessary to complete your return, you will be contacted by mail."
The confusion again is that TurboTax shows both state and federal as being "Accepted." I have yet to receive anything by mail.
Is "pending review" the same as being audited? And if it is under further review on the federal level, why doesn't it say that instead of "being processed"??
Audits don’t start until summer so you’re not being audited at present. TurboTax “accepted” only means your taxes were in good enough shape to submit to the IRS, where they then have to be “approved” and then you receive your refund.

I filed my 2020 tax return with TurboTax on February 7, 2021My tax return was accepted by the Irs on February 12, 2021 and it’s been over 21 days I been checking on the IRS website and it keep saying information not available
The irs is very behind because of the new tax laws, child credits, and the latest stimulus check.
My refund was accepted Feb 12th. It was E-Filed directly to IRS. Why is it taking so long to receive my refund?
Irs is behind because of the new stimulus.
We understand accepted does not mean approved...the issue that A LOT of us are having is that we submitted our taxes and when we go to check our refund status the IRS does not acknowledge that the forms have even been received. We get error messages saying the information we entered was inaccurate and not found. I filed Feb 12, accepted Feb 13...it is now May 20...and in case no one has been able to talk to the IRS, they put the blame back on Turbo Tax. It’s just frustrating for those of us that worked hard and need that portion of our money back.
@Blynne81 When you receive those types of results on WMR it is because your return has not been fully processed and yes that is in part due to the ongoing effects of the pandemic. Please review both FAQ's below:
Why do some refunds take longer than others?
Thank you for those links, that is exactly the answer I have been looking for that no one has yet to provide. Much gratitude.
Those links, and many others, are available in the community forum for future reference.
Turbo tax only says accepted meaning that everything looks correct as far as forms being filled out without errors. But turbo tax cannot accept the payments there fore irs is the main site you would check to see status of the refund
You can also try using the following link to track your refund.
IRS processing time and refund status
The online link is your best option to track your refund. I have attached a link with more answers from the IRS as to why your refund may be taking longer to process.
My Federal taxes excepted but State did not. Not able to get into my account to find out the problem for Michigan taxes. Turbo tax says it's closed this account. #[social security number removed] Michigan tax needs corrections. Please send E-mail to [email address removed]
Your state and federal returns are processed separately so you can receive one before the other.
You can track your Michigan state return here for further assistance.
IRS anticipates most taxpayers will receive their federal refund within 21 days of when they file electronically, with direct deposit, if there are no issues with their return. It can take anywhere from a few days to 3 weeks for the IRS to update your return status.
TurboTax does not receive updates from the IRS once they have accepted your return. We can't give you an exact date or time. TurboTax is not connected to the IRS or state department(s) of revenue refund tracking tools. The date given in TurboTax is an estimate of when you may receive your return. The IRS gives the actual deposit date and issues most refunds in about 21 days, although some returns take more time to review.
See the video in this link for a really good explanation of the process:
