For tax year 2020 this has happened quite a bit. It is somehow put in a pending status that does not show up on their system. If you received an e-mail from TurboTax stating that your return has been accepted, then you know that IRS has received the return. Not to worry, IRS has been experiencing serious refund processing delays due to other priorities.
IRS representatives can research the status of your return only if:

I haven't received my state taxes
Federal and state refunds come from completely separate entities, There is no rule as to which one will come first or how much time there will be between their arrivals.

Did you e-file your state tax return and was it accepted?
You complete your tax return by finishing all 3 Steps in the File section. In Step 3, to e-file your tax return, you must click on the large Orange button labeled "Transmit my returns now".
After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.
To check the status of an e-filed return, open up your desktop product or log into your TurboTax Online Account. You can find your status within the TurboTax product.
If accepted by the state use this TurboTax support FAQ to check the state tax refund status - https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1899433-how-do-i-track-my-state-refund
how do you know what they want if they don't tell you i don't have esp
Thank you for this information I was really confused on it it's been over 21 days however for my individual tax return ( I had amended federal and state) Department of Revenue sent a notice of Bill but in light of tax breaks clearly states a refund of 398 I think because it was sent out on the 14th and I mailed mine in on the 17th, it was just the timing and it needs to be updated.
If you owed on the original return but will not on the amended return then don't worry ... when the amended return finally gets processed it will balance out AS LONG AS you filled in the amended return correctly. The amended return ASSUMES you paid the original balance due on line 16 ... so look at your 1040X ... does line 16 reflect the amount you actually paid ??? If not then you need to recompute lines 16 - 22.
See that's the issue is the first filing was incorrect due to the new tax break and since I had filed before that went through it didn't take off the first ten thousand two hundred in my unemployment once I had it amended then it went through as non taxable income and put me in a different bracket therefore I ended up with a refund from federal and my individual tax return it's just the gap between the first filing in the second and criss-crossing in the mail I hope that everything gets processed and taken care of I know that everyone has been so busy with this pandemic politics and changing laws thank you for your response
I thought my taxes were e filed I sent my owed money to the IRS 5/11/2021. When I checked today nothing sent. I sent them today. Do I need to do anything?
If you just filed today then you will get 2 emails ... the first to acknowledge the filing and the second to report it was either accepted for processing or rejected and needs to be corrected.
If you set up a direct debit of the balance due then that will happen sometime in the near future.
Filed 2019 1040 via TurboTax on 4/14/2020. Got confirmation from TurboTax that IRS accepted return. My credit card shows IRS received my tax owing with the return. My tax transcript says no 2019 return filed, but acknowledges receiving the payment. It's now been 14 months since I filed, and still waiting. IRS rep tells me their records do not show a return was filed. IRS rep says most likely reason is IRS is behind in processing returns because of Covid, but can't tell me definitively.
Most likely the return has not been processed yet ... they are still several million returns behind still and they focus on the returns will refunds and those with balance dues on them were pushed to the back burner. Eventually they will catch up.
Same here my amount was decreased and I know it wasn't my children's info that was the problem its always been the same. It had to be a computer error.
I have the same issue. I am not sure what to do or who to call? Please advise!!
