direct deposit bank
my direct deposit bank
Did you already e-file? If you did NOT e-file you can go to the FILE section and change how you want to receive your refund. If you want direct deposit you need the routing number and your own account number.
You cannot change banking information while your return is in pending, nor can you change it after the return is accepted.
If you e-filed:
Banking information for direct deposit is wrong
If you entered incorrect banking information for your refund, you can change it if your return is rejected. If it is accepted, however, it is too late to change it. The bank will reject the refund and send it back to the IRS. Then the IRS will issue a paper check and mail it to the address you put on your tax return. Expect a delay of at least a couple of weeks to receive your refund.

With Turbotax Deluxe 2020, going to the file menu gets you no choice about delivery of your refund. After many searches, many questions, a huge amount of time, and many tries, I was only able to switch from paper check to direct deposit by going to the 1040 form and then scrolling far down to where I could find an option to insert bank account information. That was after passing and attempting unsuccessfully to change the refund on the actual 1040 text.
It’s not letting me open a file to change my direct deposit
I went to the forms and fired up 1040. I could not override any of the refund information on the form. But when I scrolled way down, I found where I could enter information about bank accounts for direct deposit. It took an age to figure that out because the information provided by Turbotax was dead wrong.
my file tab doesn't show this
To update your account/payment information, please see the Help Article here.
I never saw the tab before filing to check I want my check deposited to this account. All it had was the last four numbers of both accounts. Never had a box to select as you said - deposit to this account. Hoped for best that it will go to right account. Also, I could not find anywhere where you can DELETE outdated information. Also unclear if you want to have it go to a new account this time on how to show that since it never has select this account. ( I am using free version) Very confusing.
I had the same problem !
I use am friend bank account information and I have been Waiting to get my direct deposits since I have not till now
Why
Using someone else's bank account could be a problem. The bank might reject the deposit and send it back to the IRS. Then the IRS issues a check and mails it to the address on your tax return.
At this point--it does not sound like you even know if your refund has been issued. There are a lot of delays for federal refunds this year.

TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer. “21 days” is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS. Many refunds are taking longer during the pandemic. The IRS is backlogged —-they are still trying to process millions of 2019 returns; they received millions of e-filed on the day they opened for 2020 returns, and now they are burdened with sending out another round of stimulus checks.
Some delays are resulting from incorrect amounts that folks entered for stimulus checks they received. Many people have been confused by the recovery rebate credit and completed it incorrectly. The IRS may delay your refund while they cross-check to see what you received.
First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control. TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.
You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount (line 34of your 2020 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing.
